Concerned about hurricane season

I was down in Florida this year for each one of the hurricanes ( Charlie, Francis, Jeanne ... and we got "rained on" by what was left of Ivan circling back.)

Should you get down there, and be stuck during the Hurricane, Don't worry - Your probably at the safest place in the Orlando area.

I was on a Hurricane Ride-Out crew for Hurricane Frances at the Contemporary Resort, and Disney did everything within their power to do what they could to make the hurricane as painless as possible.

I wouldn't worry about staying at Disney during the Hurricane season at all. Should one hit, you are in good hands.

My father lives in West Palm Beach and he told me just last week that the news has been reporting that the Caribbean weather system that pushed so many storms to Florida is set up exactly like it was in 2004. They are forecasting that Florida could be in for a very similar hurricane season as last year. There is really no way to tell exactly how or where a storm could hit when you're making your vactation plans in March, so just make your reservations and hope for the best!! ::MickeyMo

We checked into the Contemporary the same day H. Charley did!!! Of course it was Friday the 13th!!!! We got there just before the parks shut down. Other than the restaurants all closing down, it really wasn't an issue. The staff at CR kept us up to date on what was going to happen. They fed us in little styrofoam boxes from a huge buffet. For breakfast the next morning we got to eat at Concourse Steakhouse and it was quite good. The CMs did apologize for the not huge selection but it was good enough for us. Some of those poor CMs spent the night in pool chaises!! No way was I complaining. We were so comfy in our room that we slept right through it all when the storm passed over us!!!

Yes, there was a little damage to the parks but it was mostly trees down. This was taken care of quite rapidly. Ft. Wilderness was closed for two days because of the tree damage. Our HDDR PS had to be remade. And AK took a little longer to open but there did open the next day but late in the day.

I certainly wouldn't hesitate to be in WDW if another hurricane came through. I will say that we were amazed at the amount of damage off-site when we went back to the airport. WDW held up incredibly well. Other than the extreme humidity we had no issues. Since we had been there the exact same time the previous year, we were surprised by the humidity but evidently that was due to the system that allowed for the hurricanes.
