Concept Art posted for Poly DVC Bungalows & Villas!

It's interesting that the concept art for the studio shows night stands on both sides of the bed. The concept art for AKV showed two night stands as well but as usual the actual studio had only one, in between the bed and the sofa. I wonder if they will really do it this time. In addition to downsizing from a king (at home) to a queen when we stay in a studio, we really miss having a bedside table on both sides of the bed. I really hope they address this in the Poly studio.

Intersestingly, on the member web site they say 360 deluxe studios. Nothing about 1 or 2 bedroom units. That is shocking to me.

It's disappointing. I'd be OK with it if they put a king bed, washer/dryer and a whirlpool tub in the studios but it doesn't sound like they've done that.

Tweets from today's meeting indicate the plunge pools are cold pools. I had assumed they would be like mini hot tubs. I guess there won't be too many people using them in the winter months!

None from the tweets from the meeting. Disappointing for me. They did say the studios would be connecting so you can book 2 studios and sleep up to 10. Still not the same as a 1 or 2 bedroom for me. 360 studios and 20 bungalows. No point cost mentioned...yet.

Sounds like they just spruced up the hotel rooms a tad and reconfigured them some. But no units with washers/dryers/kitchens. Major disappointment in my eyes.

Unless there is a phase 2 (i.e. new building)

Not a fan. We do DVC for the living room and in room washer/dryer. If I wanted to stay in a studio, I wouldn't choose DVC. I know many do, but it's not for me. Just sayin'...

So it has been confirmed, Only the 20 two bedroom bungalows and everything else is 360 connecting studios, which they claim will be the largest "studios" at WDW. Since only DVC rooms are classified as "studies" that means the rooms will be larger than OKW, but the photo in the article indicates it is not by much.

Points not yet known. They put the bungalows on the lake so they can charge something in the GV range, probably less than VGF GVs but I am guessing close to at least the lake view GV range at BLT. By making the studios larger than VGF but having the same dual bathroom arrangement and also sleeping five, they can justify charging more points per night than VGF for the studios, and likely those in the lower view category, if there is more than one view category, will be close to the point cost of the VGF lake views if not higher.

The announcement boasts that with connecting rooms you will be able to get two studios and have ten guests. I almost gagged at that one since that will be like trying to squeeze ten into the existing 1BRs at other DVC resorts. Having all those studios and nothing else but the bungalows gives you all those rooms in a smaller total per room space than other resorts and eliminates the cost of full kitchens, washer/driers, and large master bathrooms but you can assume that any savings will not be reflected in what will likely be a high price per point. Also, for DVD, the 360 studios with no 1BRs or 2BRs solves the VGF problem: points were so high, both in price and number needed per night that vast majority purchased enough for only studios at VGF, resulting in overwhelming demand for those while leaving the dedicated 2BRs and even GVs with light demand (both were avaialble at 7 months out even for Christmas week this year). So what we now have is not a condominium home away from home structure but simply a hotel that has rooms with mini kitchens into which you can uncomfortably stuff 10 if you get two of them. Not my idea of a desirable timeshare but undoubterdly many will love it.

And if it's true that cost splitting for the hotel-based DVC resorts is based on the number of guests, the more people that do stuff themselves into the DVC rooms, the more costs Disney can shift from the Poly hotel to the DVC owners.

One thing I noticed on the DVC member site:

Today, we released new details about the resort, which will open phase one in 2015

Sounds to me like there will be additional phases, possibly another building that has 1 and 2 bedrooms. I did read a rumor once about a future high rise in the plans.

it will be interesting to see if that strategy winds up putting more wear-and-tear on the resort...

My sentiments exactly. Seems like BLT and VWL won't be so worn out any more. You think the points required for the studios will be higher than an OKW one bedroom?

I wouldn't build your hopes up for additional phases that might include more buildings. The 20 bungalows and 360 studios will probably be released in two or three phases. The initial timeshare license DVD has for the Polynesian Villas & Bungalows covers only 162 accommodations. That would cover the 20 bungalows and the 142 studios in the Moorea (formerly Tahiti) Longhouse. That is probably what will constitute Phase 1. Phase 2 and possibly Phase 3 will be comprised of the Pago Pago Longhouse Studios and the Tokelau Longhouse Studios when they come online.

Keep in mind that the word "Phase" has a different meaning to DVD than to the average person on the street. Did you know that BLT had 92 Phases, AKV had 120 Phases, and VGF had 10 Phases?

I guess the studios don't have balconies or do they?

And I heard they have an extra drawer for anybody staying in GFV studios to use if they don't mind the walk:rotfl2:

I really don't have any hopes. I rarely travel with more than 2 other people, a studio is fine and a larger one at that. it just seems strange that there are no one or two bedroom accommodations.

Why wouldn't they? The existing Polynesian rooms in those buildings all had balconies/patios.

Agreed. I would certainly not purchase points with the expectation that 1- or 2-bedroom villas will be added in the future.

I didn't mean to suggest that. Again, it just seems strange and a deal breaker for some. I still think it might be in their back pocket for future consideration but of course, no guarantees.

Perhaps Seven Seas Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort is also in that pocket popcorn::

I was all ready to buy into the Poly but not if they don't have any 1 bedrooms. I too go for the kitchen, washer/dryer and whirlpool. If I wanted a studio, wouldn't have purchased DVC.
