Is it too much to ask the concierge to buy stuff for the room beforehand. For example I wanted to get my daughter an autograph book and other similar items. I am completely willing to pay for everything, but just don't know how much is too much to ask for the concierge to do.

I asked to have Pal Mickey and an autograph book in our room when we arrive. Pal Mickey is a surprise for daughter who thinks if she's going to get one, it wll be her money. Figured both are available in resort gift shop and easy to do. They seemed fine with that and very willing to do for us.

I think if you limit requests to what is available there in the resort or what can be delivered (ie flowers etc) it's fine.

I wouldn't treat them as personal shoppers.

Just my opinion....Sharon

We are leaving soon and I just requested this from WL concierge...they seemed happy to do it and even offered some suggestions for items!

I asked Tara at Poly Planning Office if we could have some items--the guest of honor badges for my two DS's and beanie sized Pluto and Donald--waiting for us at the room. I asked if she could arrange it and if not perhaps the florist could handle it. She couldn't have been nicer about it. I gave her our CC info and everying I asked for (and some other items I didn't but the boys loved) were waiting for us.

It didn't hurt that I asked nicely, and that I had already sent an e-mail to the concierge manager to praise his staff, Tara in particular.

Have a lovely trip.

I stayed at Poly in May and had a Pal Mickey waiting in the room for the kids. All they need is a credit card to make the purchases. I agree, I would limit the items to things they can readily get and the number of requests. They were more than happy to help out when I called.

As well, here's a great hint. My last two trips to Poly, I purchased items at home (disposable cameras, mister bottles, etc.) and had them shipped to the hotel prior to our arrival. Last Sept., I had a small gift a day for the girl's (hand lotions, a toe nail painting kit, a necklace, etc.) Each day concierge placed an item on the table. My kid's were thrilled and could not wait to return to see what they had waiting for them.

In May, my DS & DD went and I shipped some Disney Beanies I picked up at the DS, snacks, etc. Basically, they each had a "goodie basket" waiting for them on the bed when they arrived. I bought items like candy bars, snack bags of chips, etc. that I knew they could not get in concierge and much cheaper to buy at home. It certainly limited our time and dollars buying snacks for two teenagers.

Definately.. ask them!

Last year at AKL I had a welcome gift in the room for my DD8 and had arranged "pillow gifts" for the turndown housekeeper to leave on her pillow every night :p

This year I am having them have a "Guest of honor' badge and a pal mickey waiting in the room... and also we are doing pillow gifts -

The concierge is happy to arrange these things - they do it all the time :)

I would be interested in having Guest of Honor badges for each of my DS's plus a lanyard for each of them. What kind of information should I give concierage for the badges? I don't know exactly what they print on them. Also, for the lanyards, how specific should I be in making my request? I have never done this before (if you can't tell) and don't want to be too much of a pain to the staff. My sons don't do autographs and don't want Pal Mickey. Is there anything else that anyone can suggest? My DSs are 2 and 7. Thanks in advance for all of your help...

They should be able to give you prices as the lanyards are sold right in the gift shop at the hotel... there is a lanyard starter kit with some pins for around 25.00.

Guest of honor badges are around 6 or $7... they are just like a CM Badge but red... they say "guest of honor" and then your childs name :)

The planner who helped me with my BC booking picked it up at MGM .... just give them your visa number... etc and they will take care of everything.

turnlisa,

You only need to give your sons' names for the GOH badges. We got the lanyards as a part of the vacation package, so I can't help you with that. I'm sure there are others on the board who can.

The boys got coloring papers, stickers, and a set of markers. I think they came as a package. They also got Mickey shaped pretzels, character-shaped cookies, Pluto's jellybeans, and some chocolates.

As corky 805 said, the staff may give you other suggestions.

Thanks for the information, Kay! Thanks also for the information regarding prices. I will email the concierage staff sometime today and see what kind of suggestions they come up with. Thank you very much!!!

I guess you can start the planning process when you start doing your PS's.. 3 months out or so.

Even though we discussed the plans back then.. nothing was done till just recently (ie) I just saw the Pal Mickey charge go through on my credit card.. and actually this time I bought the pillow gifts for my DD here in Toronto and sent them to the BC via Fedex.

Have fun planning :)

For your DS's...

Last time at CR concierge I had them do a Nemo theme for pillow gifts. The first night...mousekeeping left Nemo. Second night...they had Dory and Nemo hugging. Third night... they had Bruce "attacking" Nemo and Dory from one bed to the other. WOW!

DS (and I) were thrilled! So much fun and the concierges were peeking in to see his reaction to the displays.

Also had a Pal Mickey delivered for our first day. I arranged with a quick e-mail before I left. They were more than happy to accomodate my requests. But I must say I was not real specific and I enjoyed the surprise too. They just charged the items to my room.

eeyore65,

This is a great idea! My sons would love this. I would love to do Lilo and Stitch for my younger DS and Brother Bear (since it comes out during our visit) for my older one. Who did you contact to do this? Did you give specifics about prices, etc.? I would love to do this and any help you would give me would be greatly appreciated.:bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce:

No - I was not specific. I was indifferent to the cost - it was his birthday - but I'm sure you could give them a budget. Nemo opened the day before I left and told the concierge that DS was very excited about seeing it.

I e-mailed and just said I would like an "animal" pillow gift for every night- if they could. Funny thing was - they never confirmed but everything was arranged and just perfect. I think Mousekeeping is on this too. We tipped mousekkeeping big when we left.

AKL did safari animal beanie babies (Disney versions) they were about 8.00 each for small ones and 14.00 each for the large ones... they made noises by the way (roaring etc..)

By they end of the week the room looked like this.

:)

By the third night she was DRAGGING me back to the room to see what was there!

I absolutely love this idea! We were thinking of doing Gifts of a Lifetime for his birthday but this would be so much better -- and my younger DS wouldn't feel left out! I think I will check into doing this, too. Thanks so much to everyone that helped me with this! I really appreciate it...hope I can return the favor some time!;)

I think I'll also call and have some welcome gifts delivered for our children. My daughter would love the Pal Mickey, however my 8 year old son is a little tougher to please in this area. He doesn't play with cars and truck anymore, really his interests are just sports. I wonder if they have any types of balls in the gift shops or any kind of nerf sports play gear? Does anybody know?

They have the soft footballs with characters on them and the mini-bballs, I believe it says WDW on it.
