Computers and internet connection

As the title says, I'm curious about the viability of bringing computers and the internet connection that Disney provides for the CP housing.

From what I've read, most (if not all) of the apartments only have one desk, which is normally where the modem and router are placed. I'm not sure of how big this desk is or if it'd be viable to actually use it most of the time for a desktop computer. Is it possible to bring your own desk as long as there is enough space for it? I spend a lot of my free time on my computer and I'm not sure if I'd be able to survive without it for several months.

I'm also curious about the internet connection in the apartments. From what I've read, it's pretty slow, though there is an option to upgrade it for a fee. Can anyone provide any details as to how much this costs/if it makes much of a difference? I'm not too worried about fast download speeds, but I'd like to have a stable connection if possible.

Any information that you can provide would be appreciated.

There is only one desk and it is probably large enough that you could fit two desktops side by side. My suggestion would be to bring/purchase your own desk once you are down there for use in your room. It will be a tight squeeze but there should be room at the foot of your bed or with some re-arranging of the furniture. I know others have done it.

I had a 50 ft ethernet cable for my laptop because our wireless router was spotty. We didn't pay for the upgrade and I really didn't see the need too. You can't download music or other torrents because they are somehow blocked. Netflix was often a pain to use because it had to constantly "buffer"

The desk in my dd's apartment was used for their communal tv. Everyone else kept their computers in their rooms -- they all had laptops. TBH, I would not be comfortable keeping my computer in the common area as your roommates could have friends over and who knows what might happen or studying might be a problem while people are in the room socializing.

If you have a desk top computer, I'd second the idea of buying a small desk for your room. It would be a very tight squeeze in Vista, but my dd's room in Patterson would be much easier to fit a desk into.

The internet connection was slow and a PITA, to be honest. It had a negative impact on my dd's online classes, that's for sure. Although Netflix streaming was fine. Go figure. Also -- you have to provide your own router.
