Okay- I'm pretty sure my desktop is done. However, before I take it in to see if it can be fixed again. Does anyone know what these means--

Everytime you try to start it up- it tries to go through the process. Only rather than completing it- we get a message "an invalid parameter has been passed". What is that?

This computer had a virus right after we got it 2 years ago that made it "crash" thankfully the place we took it to had it working within a 1/2 hour (so not too much $$$).

Thank you!

One of your Windows files is either corrupted or got overwritten with an older or bad version (perhaps by a virus).

Can you boot it in "safe mode"? To do that, after you turn it on and it goes through the memory test (sometimes you don't see this - right before the Windows logo screen displays), start pressing the F8 key every few seconds. You should get a startup menu and one of the options is to start Windows in "safe mode".

Does that let you get Windows started?

Do you have a CD from the PC's manufacturer that lets you wipe the system clean and re-install Windows? You could do that (but you will lose your information on the hard drive). If you do that, be sure to keep running Windows Update after you get back up and running to get all of the security updates off the web.

Thank you- I'm going to try those suggestions!! I know I don't have a disk- because it's supposed to be able to rebuild the files automatically, but of course I don't know how- thats what they did last time.
