Computer Question re: Norton AntiVirus

I have recently started using Norton anti-virus. When I do a scan, it comes up with about 12 files that it identifies as threats. It asks if I want to delete them - they are all checked and I respond okay to delete them.
But then it doesn't seem to delete them. My next choice is to "exclude" or "skip". Neither of these choices seem logical. No matter which I choose it will then give me a summary that it identified, for instance, 12 files that are threats, but NO files deleted!!
What am I doing wrong??? My old software (PC Cillin) seemed to be more user friendly.
Any suggestinos will be appreciated!!

If the delete fails, it tells you to click on the names and gives you directions on how to go about fixing the problem. It's a real pain.

It is a pain and not very used friendly. Here's hoping I'll get used to it.
