this is going to sound strange. i use my computer a lot to burn cds, and of course play them at times. but what i have found, is that for the past 6 or 7 months, my computer can't recognize any audio cd. have tried other disks (dvds pictures) etc, but i don't know why the audio cds can't be recognized anymore. i checked my audio player, and that all seems up to date, really don't know what to do

Have you tried using windows explorer i.e. "my computer _> DVD-RW drive" to browse the CD. Double click on the songs and see if the media player launches OK.

It is possible to disable the media player from automatically opening on a particular CD type, this could be the case.

hi i read somewhere lately that windows updates change the way your computer works. its all about copy protection on cds. is it just the cds from a long time ago. updates may have chnaged setting. eg file formats. etc. try recording the old ones again and see if they play!!!
