DD is having a problem with her computer. It will connect to the internet but not go to any internet site. She can't use the web at all, although she can sign on to AOL Instant Messanger.

The computer stated that there was a problem : IExplorer.exe - memory something or other . . .

Anyone ever had this problem? We ran the virus scan and it came up with C/Windows System 32 . . .and that the virus was detected but could not be deleted . . .

HELP!! Please . . .

I'm having a problem with my IE at home also. I have to access IE a different way for now. I have a version of IE though my RealPlayer and it'll let me in, but sometimes with a few problems (bumping me off IE from time to time and a few other things). I think if I download the IE update from microsoft's site, that might help, but my computer yells at me it doesn't want to do that. Does she have ME, btw?

Mine doesn't show it has a virus though.

We connect through NetZero and I can connect fine through my own computer . . .We do have ME . . .I guess I'm going to have to use that dreaded System Restore Disc . . .

I don't think that you need to restore your system - but you DO have to resolve the virus question.
Why did the software say it was unable to remove it?
Have you updated to a current version of the software?
What are you using?
What was the FULL name of the virus - what you typed was not enough to identify what it could be affecting in your system.

I'm not sure of the full name of the virus . . .I'm not at home right now . . .We have Trend PCillin and it automatically updates . . .It did detect a virus on 12/3.

When I went to shut down her computer it said the IExplorer.exe system memory application error???

first, empty your cache.
go www.microsoft.com and scan for critical updates, install them if any are found.
Go to www.symantec.com and have them scan your computer for viruses. Go through the virus delete steps.
you can restore to an earlier time IF you have downloaded the restore patch for ME.

To do this you go to start, programs, accesories, system tools, system restore. Pick a restore date and click on it. Obviously you want to make this a date prior to your problem.
You might also try doing a find for belt.exe which has been causing a lot of problems for a lot of people.
I would also get a different virus protection program. Norton is the best, it is what we recommend to all our clients and IF they keep the updates current, we never have a problem with their system. I run ME and love it, never had a problem with it.

I agree. I have Norton and we've never been bitten. It's worth the couple of bucks you spend on it. Unless you like having to restore your system from the start disk? ;)

Well, its official . . .I'm not computer saavy . . .:o I spent several hours yesterday and today trying everything under the sun. Even used the Windows XP help . . .ran virus scans, computer disc checks, nothing . . .it connects to the internet but it can't open any websites . . .I'm totally frustrated . . .

Soooo I unplugged it and I'm taking it to work with me tomorrow and giving it to the computer guy and hopefully he can repair whatever is wrong with it . . .hopefully I will be able to take it home with me tomorrow . . .
