Trying to maximize my network speeds.

Spectrum is my ISP and I'm paying for 400Mb service.
My wifi/router is a Netgear R6400v2 (yes, end of service, but still works).
Hardwired devices go through a Trendnet TEG-580 Gigabit Switch. All connections show as 1G.
Desktop PC shows it's connecting at 1G.
Hardwire cables are all CAT5e

When I do a speed test, whether hardwired, or wireless (2.5G or 5G), download speeds are 130-150Mb.

I finally decide to do something about it, and contact Spectrum. They say my modem is from 2017 and I can get an upgrade in the store. So I go to the store, trade in the old modem, get the new one, and finally get it activated. I do a speed test, and again, 130-150Mb.

I don't know where the bottleneck is. I've rebooted my router and switch. I don't know how to test connection speed between device & router or router to modem.

I know I could "throw money" at the problem and replace the router, but would rather not.

Any other suggestions?

Googling your router version I see many people complaining about the same issue. Sounds like a firmware or hardware limitation.

I would suggest replacing your router with something else.

It might be more than you want but I have a UI solution home. I always get 900+ down and up with my 1G fiber connection. It is a small business solution that allows me to segregate my inlaws to their own intranet and gives me rock solid wired and wireless internet.

Thanks. I was able to confirm Spectrum is giving me the right speeds, so it is a router issue. I was updating the firmware to the latest/greatest. If that doesn't work, I may have to try doing the rollback to the version in your screen shot. If that doesn't work, new router would be next step (I'm cheap). :D

For anyone following along, upgrading to the latest/greatest firmware for the router (and the reboot associated with it) not only didn't give me the speed, but I struggled to log in to the management console.

I did a factory reset, not only could I access the management console, but I got the speed I was looking for. Made some changes and speed dropped again. Too many changes to remember, so factory reset again, got the speed, and just did the wifi (SSIDs & pw).

Still getting the speed. :D
