Computer hook up in 2br?

DD and DS both need to bring their laptops. We are staying in a dedicated 2br at BCV. Will there be 2 places for computers or do they need to share? ahhh sibling rivalry will rear it's ugly head once again (they're 26 and 24!!!)

No wireless in the rooms - in VWL the hookup was in the living room - but buy a travel router and hook that up and then you can use as many devices as you want wirelessly.

At BCV, the connection is near the table in the kitchen/living room. We always bring a small travel router with us so we're not tethered to the table. An Apple Airport Express is a nice compact little package.

If the two bedroom is a lockoff, it would have two connections. But if it is dedicated, there would only be one, probably in the living room, maybe in the master bedroom.

No wireless in the villas, except in a few areas of the lobby. And it's not free unless you are a DVC member on a reservation through MS.

All of the DVC resorts are basically set up the same. Dedicated 2 bedrooms have 1 wired connection and lock-offs have 2. Wireless connectivity is available in the lobbies and common areas like the main pool. Wireless is not free to members. The last time I checked it was $9.95 for 24 hours.

You should be OK - but I'd also suggest the wireless router so both can be comfy without being tethered to one spot.

I called today and was told that OKW hook-up was wireless. She read to me free wireless high-speed internet for DVC members. She must have looked at something wrong because it appears that it is not wireless. Ok another stupid question because I have only done wireless what type of connection is between the jack and computer it is just a phone line right I'm only asking because I need to get the connector before I leave. Thanks

You should find an ethernet cable in the closet in a bag hanging on a hanger. If it's not there, contact Housekeeping.

No, it's not a phone line. You will need to have a network port on your laptop and the network cable. The cable will be provided if you don't have it with you. None of the WDW resorts have wireless available in the villas (a few resorts have wireless available in lobby or ther public areas - but it's not free). HH is getting free wireless installed (this month, I believe).

Disney Vacation Club members have recently received some very good news. According to DVCNews.com, the club will now be offering free internet access to members who are using their points. Here is a section of the release…

Based on Member feedback, the daily charge for wired high-speed Internet access for Members staying at Disney Vacation Club Resorts at the Walt Disney World® Resort will be discontinued effective May 4, 2008. Guests renting Disney Vacation Club accommodations will continue to pay the daily rate for access, and high-speed Internet access charges still apply to Members staying at non-Disney Vacation Club Resorts.

I emailed the webmaster last night and this morning I got this reply:

"Linksys the manufacture of the travel router has discontinued the product. In it's place we suggest the Linksys WRT110. The WRT110 includes the "N" band and is available at a better price. We will update our website this morning. We apologize for any inconvenience that this may have caused".

Looking at the specs on the WRT110, I wish that we had that one. More bang for less buck.

Wow, we stayed at in a dedicated 2 bedroom at BCV in August and only had one hook up near the kitchen table. We were hoping for one at the desk for the quietness, but nothing there. Strange how yours had 2 hook ups and ours only had one. It would've been nice to leave the lap top on the desk in the master bedroom.

Think of the wireless router and your computer like walkie talkies. They both have to be manufactured to talk to each other. The wireless technology has changed over the last couple of years and there are three different ways that the router and computer can talk to each other and they have to match. Wireless-B, Wireless-G, or Wireless-N.

Plus you computer has to be wireless ready. Older computers may not be. Mine wasn't and I had to buy a card for the computer.

Anyone wishing to use their computer at Disney should get comfortable using it at home first. Nothing worse than lugging your old notebook computer to WDW and finding that it won't work as expected.

While DVC wants us to think its a perk for owner ship, it sounds like anyone on points gets it for free. We stayed at the CR for New Years, and internet was free there also? Not sure if it is at all the resorts at this point or not.

Yeah, I set it all up at home first with all laptops being able to connect. So we should be good to go...I just thought they changed something internally within their network. Ok, thanks!
