Hi all!

My Kapersky service expires soon and I'm wondering if I should re purchase it, or find something else? Honestly, I'd say I have some spyware and stuff on my computer even with having that on here since I got my laptop, as my computer is sssslllloooowwww!!!! So, I'm wondering if I should try something else. Any advice is greatly appreciated, as I'm clueless about this kind of thing!

Thanks!!

We just bought Norton 360. We were having big problems with spyware, virus type things. Norton seems to have done its job finding and getting rid of it all.

Never pay for anti-virus. Plenty of great free options. Microsoft Security Essentials is free and highly regarded. Avast is also a great option, but I prefer Security Essentials.

Well, we had the free Microsoft Security Essentials, and after spending hours, and several days on the phone, the problems still existed. The Microsoft people were helpful, doing things remotely, but it was to no avail. That's when we took the advice from my brother and purchased Norton 360. No more problems now.

I have had several computers and have used many anti-virus programs including Norton, McAfee, AVG, Avast and Microsoft. The one I have liked the best has been Avast and it is free and easy to use.

This.

I personally use Avast. I have never gotten anything on my system while having this installed.

We use AVG (free version) and never had any issues.

I was amazed at how much faster my computer ran after I dumped Norton's.

I've never looked back.

Norton is a system hog. It's amazing how much system resources it uses. Thus it slows many computers down.

I know Avast and some other free ones are good too, but we use Norton 360 and it's very good and has some added tools I like. It does not have the issues of the other Norton programs and works very much behind the scenes.

Not arguing for it, but just another person's experience to consider.

Have you tried a disk cleanup and defrag???

I like eset nod and kaspersky. I used avg free and still got a rootkit virus that it didn't recognize (but eset nod did--though it had to be removed with combofix). I don't like Norton or McAffee. I think they were the big ones 10 years ago, but now they're just expensive system hogs.

I've been using AVAST, that's what the IT guys at work recommended and I've not had any problems. It's been about a year. In fact this new laptop came with McAfee free for 6 mos. When that expired I downloaded Avast and it found a virus that McAfee didn't, and I ran the dang scan the day before it expired and wasn't on the computer again till I downloaded Avast!

Oh boy... :confused3 I'm not sure how to do that!

If I can find out how, I will! :surfweb:

I will not be renewing Kapersky, thanks to you all. I will definately do one of the recommended one you've told me about.

Thanks soooo much!!! :worship:

I'd wait to download anything until after you do a defrag and disk cleanup. If you've never done those two things it could be the solution you're looking for.

Good luck!

This is how I would do mine (Win 7)

Open up my computer. RIGHT click on the drive you want to defrag. Go to properties, then tools... you should see the option to defrag.

Cleanup should be available in properties, general.
