Hi we are staying in SSR and we are about to buy an IPAD. I have been advised by APPLE that I can connect an Airport express router to the High speed internet in the Treehouse villa and use the Airport Express Router to make our own WIFI area. Has anyone done this? Does it work or has Disney got some system installed to stop this being done? Anyone know please? Thanks... 149 days to go!:yay:

I am at SSR (Grandstand) right now, using Disney's free WiFi (trouble free, on day 4)...

The plug-in for the ethernet cable is still in the room, but the cable itself is not.

I'm pretty much of a "computer dunce" so can't answer whether what you describe could/should be doable...but can tell you from personal experience that the WiFi here (again, Grandstand) is working "perfectly" for both me and my kids (in a separate villa)...we do not stream movies (or other video)...we just use the internet...

Hope this helps...or that at least it's not completely irrelevant!

We've all been doing EXACTLY what you propose for years. No problems. It would have worked fine. 6 months ago.

The wired connections are still there but are being turned off, as we understand it, or at least "not supported" anymore.

WDW has wireless everywhere now in the villas and all the hotels, including at the treehouses.

I'm taking my wireless router (like an Apple Airport) this week and am going to continue to use my own until it won't work anymore; which may be this week. :lmao:

Get the iPad. That's all you need.

Great News ! I shall only buy the IPAD then. Thanks everyone and enjoy your vacations.:cool1:

We have an Apple Airport Express and have used it on several visits during the past two years. Just plug in the ethernet cable to it and it will create a wifi hotspot, depending on what resort you are staying you may have to pay the $9.99 24hour connection fee. We have two iPhones and an iPad so it's nice to be able to connect multiple devices at once. We have done this at Pop Century and Coronado Springs resort. Most WDW hotels are getting wifi but the signal is usually slow. Our 3g phones and 3g ipad usually get better signals and speed with 3g, even with the not-so-great 3g reception on WDW property. That's really the main reason we got and Airport Express, so that we can hook it up to the wired connection and have super-fast wifi.

Jan 2012 - Disney WiFi worked great at THV. Each individual Treehouse appears to have its own Disney-provided WiFi hotspot.

On the same trip (Jan 2012), friends at OKW had lots of trouble with Disney WiFi and eventually gave up on it even after several trouble calls to maintenance. Apparently at OKW, the hotspots aren't in every room but in alternate rooms.
