computer/deleting email question

Is there a further step to deleting email beyond emptying the delete file? If so, I have a huge delete file full somewhere!

Well, depending on which email program you have you'd delete the message which should send it to the email programs deleted items folder. Then you should empty that folder which may or may not put it in your computers recycle or trash folder. You can usually find this in Windows Explorer. Then you want to empty that folder.

At that point, only a serious computer expert would be able to get it back and it won't be taking up usuable space on your computer.
