Compresion tights question

Obviously (at least I hope it is) I am not built to wear capris........

I will say that the ventilators work well. I packed the wrong tights last year and ended up running in them in the 2010 Canadian Invitation Disney Marathon. I was miffed but am going the long way to say that i will wear them when the starting temps are in the upper 50's to low 60's and the finish will remain the upper 60's or less. The long path was to say they work kind of well in the 30's. I did over short them to keep the privates happier and that covered part of the grid.

Hmmm....just part of the grid, huh? Now, I definitely need to meet you! :rotfl:

Haha, thanks Coach! I'm bringing both tights and will try them both on during the day when I get there to see which ones I like. Probably leaning towards the Ventilators though!

Um...yeah. It wasn't until my 3rd commando run in these that I had a problem. There is no built in crotch in the ProX pair. I wound up with some irritation near the backish bikini area. Still LOVE them a believe they save my knees!

They actually suggest you go to the larger size if you are near the edge . . . I would suggest the same.

At this risk of sounding reaaly dumb here, by 'commando' we're talking sans undies, right?

Laura- thanks for chiming in about size. I'm scoping some out on ebay & wasn't sure. I'm 5'2" but heavy for my height. Think I stick w/ mediums or maybe go to the running store to try 'em on 1st.

Yes...sans underwear! LOL! Praying they don't split. LOL! I wore them that way for the first time at the Philly race.

I have the mediums and they are a little short. I was afraid to get the large and lose the compression factor, though. I wish they were a little longer, but I am 5'8". Still love them. I have a birthday coming up and asked for the Ventilators! I will let you know how they work out if the birthday bunny brings them...

Went to the running store today & tried on Stabilyx. Good grief I was sweating up a storm in the fitting room just getting them on. Small gave great compression but were a teeny bit tight at the waist (dang muffin top). Medium felt better at the waist but I'm afraid to lose compression. Running dudes actually said go smaller. I'm thinkin whichever I can get on Ebay for cheaper.:thumbsup2

I ran in the Stabilizers today and they are fantastic!! If only they protected my Achilles tendon, I would have ran the entire time but I used the ankle area to compress the area afterwords for the RICE technique so they were very handy. Definitely worth the cost! So many running things are a waste of money but I didn't get too warm in them and the only bad thing was getting the suckers on! That was a balancing act in of itself!! I am never running a race without these! Thanks for the tips!!

I ran my first-ever race (yes, the 5K) on Friday, and I am SO hooked.
What equipment would y'all suggest as I take my next steps? I think I need head-to-toe gear adjustment.... Sadly, I missed the Expo, but I believe the knowledge on this thread might just beat all!
Thanks :cool1:

Good shoes . . . the rest depends on the weather!

Here are my "can't live withouts" in any kind of weather:
Garmin 405 (monitors my speed and distance - a real motivator!)
iPod
Baseball type hat made for running (Keeps sweat from burning my eyes)
Good shoes
Good socks
Sport bra
ifitness belt (to carry id, money, key, etc.)

Hot weather:
Running shorts
Tech tee
Water belt

Cold weather:
CW-X tights
Long sleeve tech tee
Arm sleeves for coldish weather, but not cold enough for long sleeves
Nike Thermal zip up jacket (can be removed and tied on waist)
Ear warmer/headband thing (Still wear the baseball hat on top)
Gloves made for running

Now I am intrigued....I have been dealing with issues in my calves...would compression tights help? Even at the princess if its "warm"...not like warm in Atlanta in July, but normal Orlando average temps.

The Ventilators are made for warm weather running . . . they run about $100, but I am hoping the Birthday Bunny brings me a pair!

Oh, and I'm planning to wear a Magenta Sparkle Skirt over them with a blinged out shirt! Yes, I changed my outfit YET again. This time, I'm done. ;) Well....maybe.

Thanks for enabling me...but then again I feel as though I MIGHT have enabled you just a bit on your skirt. :rotfl:

Yes. My Calves are usually tired after running but not this time. It is amazing how much of a difference they made. I did not get overly warm in the Stabilizers (which are good for Calf Issues, etc.). In fact, at Mile 9, I was still pretty cold in them. It didn't feel that way, but I was definitely cold when I took a break. Body temperatures can very though. But, they have socks that would work. I saw several people wearing them. The rest of their products - the Ventilator, 3/4 length and shorts seem to be best for those with IT band issues. If you go to the CW-X website they have a questionaire that limits choices based on support needs.

Thanks sooo much! :flower3:
Since I presently own about 3 items on that list, I better save my pennies...
I just signed up for the Revlon Run for Women at the end of April, so hopefully that warmer weather gear will be less costly.

LOL, I keep reading that they are a chore to get on. Good to hear that you really like them. Did you get the 3/4 or regular tight?

I am trying to decide what ones to get.:confused3 My hips do bother me with most long runs over 10 miles, but the pain doesn't make me stop, they just ache a lot. However, at my half in October, I didn't have any hip discomforts, but at mile nine, I had cramps at the top of my calves. By the time I was done running, it felt like I had 2 balls in the back on my calves. I had to keep massaging them, and it lasted about an hour. I think it was more of a hydration issue then anything. But at nearly $100 a pair, I want to buy the right tights the first time. I could easily see myself loving them, even for the over all reduction in muscle fatigue with long runs.

The closest running store that carries these is 2 hours away, so I am planning to just buy on line.

Right now, I am leaning toward the Stabilyx tight.....

I am a huge fan of zappos! Free shipping both ways! Tremendous customer service with no hassles.

I wore the full length because that was what they recommended at the Expo. The tights in Small fit great and I had no problems. I was worried when I needed to take a break because they are a little tricky but it wasn't an issue. I will say that I never experienced getting too warm in them and in fact, when I took my first break at the TTC, I was so cold apparently that I couldn't feel my butt to know if I had pulled them up the right way! I had to check in the mirror on the way out! :). I really believe that these suckers are as essential as the right running shoes. We'll see how they are running in warmer weather.

I have the black with blue accents cw-x tights. I call them my "blueberry muffin top" pants because they are not very flattering but they are very effective! They have excellent knee support (it's in the design - similar to taping) and great compression.

Mine are the insulated kind --- I have ran in them outside when it was less than 10 degrees and didnt get cold (although I tend to "run hot" , when its below 20 I do get cold) but the cw-x insulated tights keep me warm. These tights are great! I got them for about $30 less than retail on Zappos.com.

And the compression socks??
Do most folks don them post-race only??
My "very close" veins are an issue.....

I used KT tape during the race on my knees and shins and. They felt much better than they usually do post long run. Is it recommended to tape before all long ( say greater than 10 mile runs)? Since the tights are similar to taping is it okay to wear them all the time during training or are these race day only wear?
