Comprehensive info on DL area?

Is there somewhere I can find detailed information about the area surrounding Disneyland? I am making my first trip to DL in August and I would like to see what restaurants are within walking distance from my hotel, best way to get to the parks as well as the convention center, info on public transit, etc.

Does the Unofficial Guide have this info?

I have issues with my feet (plantar fasciitis) and I need to try to make my walking travel as efficient as possible....

The Anaheim resort transit website has a map of the surrounding area, although not very detailed. It does show some restaurants on it. The Garden Walk is a shopping center with quite a few restaurants within walking distance of many hotels.
I am sure if you post your specific hotel people could tell you what is nearby. The unofficial guide doesn't have info on anything nondisney except good neighbor hotels.

Very helpful so far, thank you! I will have to take some time to really read through Hydroguy's guide.

I am staying at Eden Roc, which is on Disneyland Drive south of Katella. If I were to walk to the park(s), do I have to go over to Harbor and then up? I like the idea of taking the ART though. Looks like I would be just south of one of the pick ups.

Regarding the convention center, where is the closest entrance I can go to? Is there an entrance facing Disneyland Drive?


Edit - Love the interactive DLR map! Looks like I was mistaken on precisely where Eden Roc was located. Looking at the interactive map, it looks like it is on the same side block as the convention center and closer to Katella than I thought. It looks like I should just be able to walk down Katella to the entrance. Does this sound right?
