On Sunday, i got a phone call from a 407 number. I know that's Disney so I answered. They were calling to offer us a complimentary upgrade for our upcoming stay, scheduled for All Star Movies. They offered us a suite at Art of Animation (either Cars or Lion King). Even though, it's only the first night of our split stay, we accepted and took a Cars Suite! I wish that our flight landed before 730pm but we should be able to get to the resort in time for a quick swim in the Big Blue pool. They said something about it being part of the "cool kid summer" but I wasn't completely listening to them at that point.

My oldest and I have a long standing joke about us staying at All Star Movies. We have booked it for at least 4 different trips but have never actually stayed them. First time, we decided to change to POFQ shortly after booking. Next time, I decided to change us to WL without telling my crew. It was somewhere I had always wanted to say and figured a shorter trip (plus a discount) would be the time. 2 years ago, we got an offer to upgrade to CSR for an extra $30 a night so we took it. And now, an offer to stay at AOA. I think us and All Star Movies just aren't meant to be.

The family suites in cars are cute. We were actually pixie dusted an upgrade from a room with 2 queen beds in the Little Mermaid section to a family suite in the cars area, it was great.

I have seen quite a few posts on FB the last few days on WDW pages, stating the same thing. All of them being upgraded from the All Star Resorts.

Enjoy!!!
That's really fun! At first I thought they were kinda throwing out nonsense to OP for the reason instead of simply stating it was an operational issue but with others reporting the same thing maybe it really is part of the kid summer thing.

Hmm... wonder if Disney is seeing unusually high demand on their cheap Values and unusually low demand on the expensive Values for now?

We have never seen a case where it appeared Disney discriminated against people who booked via a TA or 3rd party, I highly doubt Disney would start now.

I guess it just seems like a need to decide right then thing and a TA would have to contact the client. So it seems like they'd go for non-TA bookings first. Then again, if the offer is AoA or Pop my TA knows I'm not a Skyliner fan, so... (But I've also seen CSR and she knows I love that resort. Hmm.)

They were probably oversold and when this happens, they look for one night reservations to upgrade. The shorter your stay, the more likely an upgrade. Unless something major happens, longer stays won't be upgraded. They probably didn't see you had a continuing reservation starting the next day. Nice to experience a different resort!

My best upgrade ever was on a booking I made through a TA, which I rarely use for Disney trips.

The best upgrade I ever got was due to covid. Booked at trip for April 2021 in February 2020. We had book a room at POFQ but since it hadn't reopened yet, they upgraded us to the Grand Floridian. Ended up in a theme park view room. We were bummed that they weren't doing fireworks

Very nice. Our only upgrades were also during Covid. 1st was All Star Sporys to Poly - it's a long story how we snagged that, but man what an awesome upgrade.

2nd one during Covid was All Star Movies to first Nemo suite, but then they called and said that wouldn't be open either and ended up getting a 2 bedroom at AKL.

I know. it'll never happen again but such amazing upgrades for us.

My trip at the end of next month will be my 20th visit to Disney World since 2017 and I have never been upgraded at Disney. I was upgraded at universal at the dickside resort feom a standard room to a family suite though. It made the transfer to Pop a 4 days later a little bit of a let down since we had a lot of space at universal. That was also during covid.

Yep, Cool Kid Summer is legit. It runs all the way through September.

As long as you see “407-93” and 9 or 4 at the start, it should be ok and not a scam. Of course, continue to be careful about those unexpected calls. Glad you got a better room though!

Covid was crazy like that. I didn’t get nearly as big an upgrade as you guys but when I was booked at the GF outer building tpv they gave me a deluxe king room in the main building. It was a really nice milestone birthday treat even with CL still closed. That was in May of 2021.
