Complimentary Upgrade

When is the best time to ask for a complimentary upgrade, before you go or when you get there? We have reservations at CBR but would like to stay at CR or POLY. This is our first trip to dis staying on property and we can't wait!!!!!!!!!

Most of the complimentary upgrades I've read about on this site were within the same resort, i.e., upgrade from a standard view to a water view, or from a standard room to concierge or suite, etc.

What would be the best way to ask about the upgrading? We are going to be there at Thanksgiving. Just ask the person checking us in if they have any complimentary upgrades available?
If I could upgrade my uncle to a nice view, that would really make his trip.

If you want to stay at CR or the Polynesian I would suggest trying to find a good discount and booking your vacation there. I seriously doubt the CBR staff would even be able to upgrade you to a different resort.

The only way you'll ge tupgraded to a different resort is if the one you are booked at is overbooked. And those cases are very few and far between. Even if the CBR was oversold, they would move you to another moderate before sending you to a deluxe. Because each resort operates as an independent cost center, they have to pay the next resort to accomodate you. You would be paying the same amount either way. So they wouldn't want to spend extra money to put you up at a deluxe when they could put you in another moderate and not lose money.

The only times I can remember people being bumped to another resort at check-in was when the Tupperware (?) convention overstayed, and a LOT of people who were booked at the Y/BC got bumped to rooms all over the place. Whadda mess!! Most were accomodated at the BWI, S&D. Some were sent to the GF, Poly and CR. But a very few ended up at moderates, and were rightfully so VERY unhappy. Lots of rooms got comped. That was back in 1997 maybe?

You could request an upgrade to a waterview or something like that when you check in a the CBR, but don't expect an upgrade to another resort, it's simply not going to happen.

About 10 years ago I had reservations at CBR and Walt Disney World called me and offered me an "upgrade" to the Contemporary Wings but at a cost of about $30 more per night than CBR. Being a college student at the time and on a very strict budget I declined the upgrade. I sure wish they would call me now with that kind of offer! But I doubt very much that you will get a complimentary (at no cost) upgrade from a moderate resort to deluxe. But I could be and have been wrong before so I wish you luck!

If you are booked at the CBR and you booked a standard view maybe they would upgrage you to a water view but other then the odd chance of a mod being over booked you would not get upgraded for free to a deluxe. And as someone else pointed out even if a mod was overbooked they would put you in another mod before a deluxe anyway.

We have never asked for even a veiw upgrade within the resort we are booked at never mind a whole other resort and have been given view upgrades on many occassions.

I would not expect to be upgraded for free at any resort.

If you really want to stay at the CR or the Poly then I would suggest booking at that resort.
