Just wondering if anyone has every been upgraded from a value resort to a moderate or deluxe? If so, were you given a reason!

That would be some pretty sweet pixie dust :)

It rarely happens.

Do not expect a free upgrade to something someone has already paid for.

A person will come on here and say they have; it happens few and far between and you have no control over it. It is done for the convenience of the resort and not you.

All you do is set yourself up for failure, expect an upgrade because 2 people said they got it. And when you check in and get exactly what you paid for and are already disappointed.

I got upgraded from std. to a Pirate room and was super excited about it until I realized how far away they are from anything...lol The kids enjoyed it though.

I'm not looking, or expecting one! I think those kinds of expectations set you up for some major disappointments. I'm just curious to know if it does happen, and if it does, what are the reasons. I love the look, feel and excitement of Pop and don't mind staying in a value at all.

From I've read it's usually due to the original resort being overbooked or rooms being out of service. Our first stay at WL resulted in an upgrade from standard view to courtyard without asking.

I have been upgraded from studio to 1 bedroom twice at Saratoga Springs. Both times it was a cash AP room only discount booking, not DVC.

I've been upgraded 3 times. All have been either location or view upgrades only, never between resorts.

One time we were upgrade from Pop Century to Saratoga Springs. It was the first week of a Free Dining promo and I guess they had MANY people trying to book Values. They told me they were offering the people who had booked the same day the promo opened the upgrade to SSR or OKW. When I called OKW was sold out, so we got SSR. That was a nice surprise!

Pixie Dust is rare..but I've been fortunate enough to receive it..
On our 1st trip to G.F. In 2001, I booked us a Garden View Room.. When we arrived by town car, they asked for our names & said they'd meet us..we thought nothing of it. A very nice C.M. net is in the lobby & took us by Golf cart to Sugar Loaf..we had been Pixie Dusted to Concierge!!
Mind you, that September was the emptiest I've ever seen it since-literally 5 min to get on any ride..Then, we got the C.L. bug ;)
The only other time was again @ G.F. We were staying in RPC Concierge-before all of these different room types..& I requested a view of the Castle for the kids, but knew it wasn't to be "expected" When we got to our room, it was the most magical view of the Castle I've ever seen!
We haven't been Pixie Dusted since, but honestly, I feel like I've rec'd more than my share! I hope someone else is as lucky as we were!!
I think u have a better chance @ very low attendance times..best of luck to all!!!

Happened to me. We were booked at CBR in August 2009 and got moved Saratoga Springs. I was not happy!!! I kept my cool though and let them know firmly that it was not acceptable and to move me somewhere else. It took a few days, but I was moved to BLT in a 1 bedroom suite.

ETA: The reason that was given was that our room category was overbooked.

Then why did you ask????? If you did, then you are "hoping" at least for an upgrade.

They happen due to overbooking at one level, a refurbishment that went over schedule, a maintenance issue or if a room assigner notes a special occasion on a resort reservation. These are all items beyond your control and no reason to wonder why it happens.

I have to say I took an upgrade on the 4/3 discount years ago from POR to SSR and was also unhappy. I begged to go to POR, but they were booked due to the deep discounts.

An "upgrade" is not always desirable.

We stayed at SSR for our honeymoon I will agree that's not a nice upgrade..

Maybe she just asked out of curiosity? People who are new to this board ask questions because they get knowledgable answers from people w.past experience. There's no reason to try & understand what her mindset is.
Of course unpaid upgrades are rare-but it's still nice to hear about them, & in the case of the 2 ppl who they "upgraded" to SSR, they both felt it wasn't an upgrade..that's good information for me, having never stayed there.

It's very spread out, far away from everything but DTD & not themed as well IMHO.. I mean its nice but it didn't feel Disney..

Asking just out of curiosity! Nothing more! I'm just happy to get there every other year! I don't expect anything more than a nice family vacation, time away from work and seeing the joy on my children's faces!

We once were upgraded from Pop Century to CSR. As I was checking in the CM asked if we would be interested in the free upgrade. We accepted the offer, and a van came and took us to CSR. It was a bit of a hassle because I don't think CS was expecting us. We had some issues getting room keys straight. However CSR was a lovely resort, one that I would not have chosen on my own. I still prefer other mods to CSR, but was grateful for the upgrade.

Also, this happened in mid-June so I assume it was because Pop Century was overbooked. The parks did not seem especially crowded on that trip, but surely that must have been the reason.

lol... all she did was ask a question. :duck:

We did once and don't expect it again. My husband, then fiance, went down to pay off some of the resort charging bill and a manager happened to be standing by. He was wearing his "Just Engaged!" button and I was off at the food court. After chatting with him about how our stay was, and I guess noticing the button, he asked if we would like to upgrade to the AKL lodge for the rest of our stay. We had 3 days left and I was floored! We packed fast and within an hour we checked in. The reason why we got the upgrade? It was July and we're very unhappy with the tour groups at ASSp running a muck, being loud, etc. We were totally not expecting to upgrade to AKL just by answering his question! :) When we checked in at the AKL, the CM checking us in said he wasn't surprised.

We went on a trip in 2009 and scrimped and saved and shared a room with my ILs, DH, me, my DS (turning 3) so we could stay savanna view AKL.

My close friend went with her family the next summer. They had originally booked AS Movies (I belive), but she called on the way down asking if she could be moved to AS Sports (she thought her sons would enjoy that). Disney said no problem. Then they got a call that they were being moved to the Grand Floridian b/c there wasn't room at AS Sports. I was pretty jealous :rotfl:
