Complimentary Room Hold?

A friend and I are planning a fall trip to Orlando that includes one night on-site at Disney to attend the Halloween party. We are currently booked at the Wilderness Lodge. However, with the new fall discount, we could move to the Contemporary for the same amount or the Grand Floridan (my dream hotel!!!) for just a little bit more.

Our current reservation is in my friend's name (she has a Disney Visa card and is using reward points for most of the stay) and she is at work right now. It's killing me to not be able to grab the Grand Floridan room and figure it out later. I seem to remember seeing something about being able to hold a room for a short period of time without a deposit. Is that possible? If so, how does one do that?

You'd have to call. It's 7 days.

We were given a 24 hour hold when I called a couple of months ago to get a quote with a PIN code.

If you don't mind floating the deposit for a few days, you could book online, and then call back later and change your method of payment. We've done that before when we were waiting to get our gift cards from Target.

That's kind of what I was afraid of. Oh, well, if I get a chunk of time, I may give it a go. If not, I'll just keep my fingers crossed that there is something still available this evening.

I had assumed that she would need to deal with the hotel reservation since she is paying for it (I'm paying for our hotel when we visit the boy wizard on the dark side). If I call and make a reservation on a card in my name with her listed as a second guest, will she have trouble accessing the reservation to change the payment method.

I could see the potential for that to get ugly!

That's true - I doubt she would be able to call and make changes, but if your friend was ok giving you the cc numbers you shouldn't have a problem. I've made reservations in my name but paid with a card with a different name on it. But if that's not an option, I would call and sit on hold instead of risking it! I've waited forever on hold before but I just put in on speaker and go about my business.

After sweating it out through the ENTIRE day (and checking the Disney site no less than 10 times), we got together this evening and were able to switch everything over on-line. No phone!!! The total upgrade was $21. I'm over the moon excited. 157 days to go!

After sweating it out through the ENTIRE day (and checking the Disney site no less than 10 times), we got together this evening and were able to switch everything over on-line. No phone!!! The total upgrade was $21. I'm over the moon excited. 157 days to go!
