complication from heart bypass - stretched vocal chords

Just got off the phone w/my mother. Said doc told both her and my brother today that brother has stretched vocal chords from the heart bypass surgery. He is hoarse and will have difficulty talking for the next 3-6 MONTHS!

you know, give this guy a break! First breast cancer then the heart bypass, now this. He's had enough

my dad went through the same thing when he had his last heart surgery. It took almost a whole year to get back to normal,

Sorry to hear that. I'd never heard of that before, as my Dad had quadruple bypass surgery 17 years ago and never had a problem like your brother is having. Maybe his voice will come back quicker than the doctors think.

Same thing happened to my dad, Guess I was just happy to still have him around. He sure was glad to still be able to see my children grow up even if he couldnt cheer for them at their games for a bit.

I think being hoarse for 3-6 months will be a piece of cake compared to what he's been thru already.

My father had 2 open heart surgeries - a triple and a triple w/the branch (what people call the quadruple). I dont remember him ever loosing his voice.
We did however loose him to heart disease 9yrs ago. My DS was 2 and he never did have the chance to see him grow up.

My prayers are with your brother, Barb. I know that after my uncle had an anurism (sp?) repairs near his heart his voice was damaged. Actually to this day, his voice is still not quite the same.
