So long story short, my SO and I bought gold AP last spring with the plan to upgrade to Platinum for our trip for NYE. Yesterday we were planning on booking our FPs only to find out that we are blacked out on the majority of our visit (bc we only have the Gold AP). We called Disney to see if we could upgrade our AP, only to find out that we can only upgrade at the park. We live in Boston so that is not going to happen...so we are trying to figure out if it makes sense. One option is just to gamble and try to get FP when we arrive on 12/30 and talk with guest relations, explain the above situation and hope they take pity on us...or buy tickets (with no intention to actually use them for entry this trip) so that we can book our FP in advance.
So I guess our questions are, if we buy a 3 or 4 day premium tickets so we can book our FPs and we use them toward upgrading our Gold to Platinum we will have a huge surplus in cost difference, what happens to this cost difference? Is it just lost, do we just keep the remaining tickets?
Or do we just buy a 3 or 4 day pass link them for purposes of booking FP then see if they can un-link them when we upgrade out AP separately at the park. We are worried if we do this that we risk them getting activated somehow and be out the cash. Also it is not ideal to have that money tied up until we visit the park again (after our AP expires). Then we can use the 3 or 4 day pass in a future trip.
I hope this all makes sense, we are open to any other suggestions!
