We have dream (not THE Dream!! 😂 but SWDAS, dates, FCC, discounts, and extra large verandah) cruise booked and PIF. As life has it, college acceptance notification was moved to a week AFTER cancellation cutoff. We can't move to another SWDAS cruise (college start date for other son). Hub & I have another cruise later in the year, not yet PIF. SO many questions....
- How much is deposit? If I recall, it's a %. What is that % and is that before or after FCC & discounts?
- If I move hub & my $ & discounts to other cruise, can we move it back (if son doesn't get accepted)? This way we won't lose as much $ if we do have to cancel.
- I really really really want to keep this cabin, so don't want to take chance of cancelling, then days later hoping it's still there to rebook cuz I know someone will grab it!
- Am I making sense?!!? What would you do?!!??

Not sure I understand issue. Will you go if your son is NOT accepted to college and not go if he is? Or do you already know the orientation/move-in date for favored college and that's the conflict?

Sorry! I know I've complicated the complicated!!

We will go if he's NOT accepted. If he is accepted, then we have to flat out cancel.

A standard DCL cruise deposit is 20%.

What would I do? I would keep the cruise booked until right before the cancellation deadline, then move the reservation to a later cruise date the day of the deadline (yes, your FCC will move with you). I would wait the week to find out if I were able to cruise, and if so, then I would move the reservation back to the original cruise date immediately, hoping my stateroom of choice was available.

No way would I just keep that same cruise booked the whole time & risk losing 20% just to ensure the chance of getting my preferred stateroom in case I was able to cruise. I wouldn't want to throw that money away on top of also paying college tuition. No specific stateroom is that important.

Well more than anything I hope your son gets accepted into the college he wants!

Deposit - is that 20% before or after discounts & credits?

If I move 2 of the 4 (or maybe even 3 of the 4? hmmm....) just to hold the cabin, then the 20% after discounts is less than $600.

We are 4 adults, 2 who are...well rounded 😉 so the extra space will be appreciated. Boys (grown) first cruise with DCL so I want the best experience for them!

Deposit is 20% of whatever the total cost of your cruise was, regardless of the fact that you had FCC to pay for some of it. You forfeit the bonus 25% portion of your FCC with a cancellation, so that isn't going to save you any money from a lost deposit. They'll keep the 20% of the total cruise cost in cash.

Did you get an email that confirms the amount of deposit you paid? It should list it along with total price, minus deposit, then balance due on PIF date.
