Complicated Cruise Question

Hope this makes sense-I currently have a cruise booked on points. I would like to use these points for a different cruise. However, DVC is saying I have to cancel the cruise altogether to get the points back. The cruise line is saying not true, they can release the currently booked cruise back to me and it will become a cash booing instead of a DVC booking. They need DVC to ask them to release the cruise back to me. DVC is saying no-they can only cancel it.

I don't want to cancel the cruise as I have a room that I really like and main dining-just trying to remove the points from it for something else. Has anyone done this before? Thanks

I think you are seeing a conflict between DVC Rules and DCL rules. If you are booked on points, DVC has to cancel the reservation to get the points returned to your account. The only exception maybe a DVC Member cruise, since basically the entire cruise is DVC.

There may be a solution to do a 3 way call between you, DVC and DCL, so DVC can cancel, and the cruise line may be able to hold the cabin in the system for a few minutes, and rebook you as a cash customer as soon as the DVC Reservation is cancelled. It's worth trying. As far as I know, unless it is a DVC Member cruise, DVC can not book an all cash cruise.

Remember, though, that those points are no longer useable at DVC resorts, they have already been transferred to the Disney Collection, and can only be used to book another cruise, Adventures by Disney, or a Disney cash resort room. And it will cost you another $95 booking fee.

Thanks-I’m having trouble getting DVC to understand the problem-they just automatically say cancel only. DCL says that it is just a matter of changing the booking code-so, it’s definitely possible on their end. I will
suggest a three way call though-this might help! Unfortunately, since my category is in gty. DCL says they can’t grab it when I rebook.

Again, it may not be that simple on DVCs side. DVC can not book cash cruises, except for the DVC member cruise. They don't have a system to receive and pass on cash from members to other Disney companies. You can not PAY DVC for the cruise, so it has to be booked through DCL, not DVC. The member cruises are different. DVC basically charters the entire ship, then resells the staterooms to members for points or cash...and cash has to be paid in one lump sum, no broken up payment options. So if it isn't a member cruise, you maybe out of luck if DCL can't grab back a cancelled reservation.
