complex ticket question, FP and AP

We have a 7 day park hopper ticket from undercover tourist. We planned a trip for the end of July and were planning to upgrade the tickets to AP. We already have the FP booked for this trip.

Now, we are adding a short 2 day trip to the end of June. We want to convert the tickets into the AP on this trip, but we do not want it to cause an issue for our current FP bookings for our 7 day trip at the end of summer.

We have heard (possibly a myth) that in order to only pay the difference from a Disney priced ticket to an AP you have to enter the park prior to upgrading. If this is the case, will this affect our FP for that 7 day trip at the end of summer?

You used to have to do that. We did that several times years ago. However I have now heard that is not the case. Last Oct. we had 7 day hoppers from an outside source and we used them once then upgraded to an AP after our first use and we did not lose our fast passes. Maybe more will chime in.

There is no difference in using the ticket first or not anymore. Upgrade when you want too. (I upgrade early in the trip as you get all the discounts that come with it when buying and dining right after you upgrade).

You don't need to worry about your fastpasses.

We upgraded our tickets early May at Disney Springs before we entered any parks. Was easy enough but took a long time. They had trouble getting the full value of the memory maker we had purchased applied to the passes. Eventually a manager forced a discount on the passes to make it work.

Is it possible to upgrade over the phone? I was going to go and use the ticket to allow for "bridging", but it sounds like you don't have to do that anymore?

If you purchased these specific tickets directly from Disney, you can call and they can upgrade them. This also applies to tickets that are purchased as part of an onsite resort package - upgraded over the phone with Disney.

This doesn't apply to third-party Disney ticket purchases.
