Who was promised the AP rate, once the system came back up...only to find out they sold it out before they called you back.

I'm probably not going to go now....

Oh well, some things just don't work out. Hope you have a nice honeymoon regardless!

I understand why you're upset Chris, but is it worth changing all of your honeymoon plans over a couple of hundred dollars?

Who made such a silly promise?

My complaint is that the Boards lead people to believe they are entitled to an AP rate, even if they aren't AP holders - That it is perfectly fine to book the AP rate & get a child's AP just for the discount, which possibly shuts an AP holder out of the rate designed for them. Yes I know Disney allows this loophole & yes allows folks to exploit it, but I do find it disappointing.....

I think all our talk of codes here really raises peoples expectations & sends the signal to not go unless you get a code. I think you should go to WDW & stay where you want & can afford & if you get a code, count your blessings instead of expecting it or taking it for granted.

I was told by a CM yesterday that if I place a room on hold last night, that I'd be able to apply any AP discounts when they were released. When I called back this morning, they were not able to apply the discount and told me to call back tomorrow. When I questioned what was happening, I was told that they were having a problem with the back system and applying AP discounts to Deluxe hotels. Whatever all that mumbo-jumbo means, I'm certainly glad I have a back up plan in place to stay at the Swan. :)

You can't not go. The AP rate was only about $20 a night less than AAA rate. Also, try again tomorrow. People cancel and move their reservations/dates all the time. I wouldn't stop trying until the day I went, and then I'd ask again at check in. :smooth:

See Im glad you said that. We will be taking our first trip soon. I had no iead about any of this. I was quoted a price, thought it sounded pretty good, and booked it. Then I found this board. I read all about how I shouldnt do things and how silly it was to pay rack rate. Needless to say, I felt pretty stupid for awhile. But then I realized its my money, we saved for it, and I havent complained one bit about the price. Next time I know better. I will check out some other times of year and other options. Who knows, maybe then we can get the Deluxe that I wanted :teeth:

Leota, I agree with your argument except for one thing. Disney changed the way AP's are "renewed" so that if you automatically renew now, the clock starts ticking right away. In years past your new AP didn't "start" until your next visit. Because of this, I expect there are a lot of people like me. I consider my self an AP holder, even though mine expired some months ago and all I currently hold is 4 "vouchers." We will activate these when we arrive at WDW (in 2 days!). I hate this system because I miss getting the Mickey Monitor they mail to AP holders, but it is too expensive to renew automatically when we may not be returning for 6 months... So there are probably a lot of folks like me, who hold vouchers but want the AP rate.

And it is possible they may change to a system that requires the pass to be active at the time of booking. Disney is a business and they will do what they must to turn the most profit. Business is picking up again for them, so discounts may not be as plentiful as the last few years and more restricted.

Many people actually do book these rooms at rack rates. I like getting a discount as much as anyone but I don't expect it. I either pay the rate or stay elsewhere.

I would love a BMW, but they don't discount them. So I can't afford them. I am not upset with them for the price they charge because obviously many can afford their asking price. Same policy with Disney.

But you can still get the AP rate even with vouchers. There are people out there booking AP rates with nothing in hand...not even a voucher. THey are just waiting to see what kind of rate they can get before buying one.
As far as renewing your AP, I didn't think you could renew and then have it start when you went again. I thought it was you could renew within about 2 weeks of the expiration date but it started then, not when you actually got to a park. It's not, nor was is ever, a good enough renewal rate for me to renew it. I just waited until I needed one and bought it fresh. But, I could be remembering incorrectly.

I think the problem here is not so much the money. It's that he was promised something by a CM on the phone, and that promise was not kept. I can certainly see being furious over that. You were essentially lied to by a CM. The CMs should have their facts straight. They should have said, please call back later and see if it is still available. They should not have said I'll call you back and you'll definately get this rate. They led you to think you'd be getting a rate when they should have known. Also, if I recall from the OPs other posts, he was not called back at all.

Disney needs to get all the CMs on the same wavelegnth and have them all giving out the same info.

As for deluxes not being available, though it took me two hours and 3 different calls to get through, I got AKL standard $139/night no problem. I was originally booked at Pop with AAA rate. I have seen other people reporting getting Deluxes as well. Several with WL, several with CR and a few YC.

you folks are right..
im not going to NOT go...

im just annoyed, i couldn't get AAA discount because i couldnt afford the 1 night room deposit before they sold out of them, so i booked at rack, my tax return covered it....but i was looking at $275 as gas money and the like....

I cant say anything about those folks who buy a childs AP or dont have an AP who call for the rate and hope they dont get caught....i've done the latter...

I've NEVER seen them run out of AP rates on previous trips, and certainly didnt expect them to run out in 1 day...either way if at 8am when i finally got them, they told me "im sorry none available, here are the other property options..." i would have discussed changing to CBR or CS or even AKL (AKL standard view with AP discount is STILL less then rack)... but i was told not to worry that the code was accepted into my reservation, but that it didnt adjust the price, that she'd call me back when the system updated and the price properly reflected to tell me what the savings would be and what my options were. (i was goign to try to leave a credit at the front desk so if i charged to the room, it would use my prepaid credit first)

Anyway...i can afford the trip...ive just never been left unhappy by disney before and as an electrician i can say i feel like i just got hit with 480V  not to mention since i started counting i have heard the loop (using the gaston song as a marker) 14 times....

goofy4tink, I think the renewal for AP's has changed in the past few years. You used to be able to "renew" your AP whenever your time was up, but then would have 365 days from the day you first used it at the parks.

Goofy4tink - I think it was about '99 when they changed the renewal policy. Previous to that, you had a grace period - you could renew, then not activate until you went, even if it was 6 or 9 months later....

Amen to that!! ;)

I was told the same thing by CM "Clyde". "The computers are down but I will give you a call back." I say "Do I need to be here to answer your call?" Clyde says "no, I will just apply the code and leave you a message." I am still waiting for Clyde to call, although I won't be holding my breath :faint:

I called around 11:30 am and was told our room type (Poly LVC) was no longer available. I am already booked with a AAA rate and am fully prepared to pay that. I would never cancel my trip, but it is somewhat irritating that the CM's are not all on the same page. Clyde did tell me that FL resident discounts were being released in the morning (he was very confident), so maybe I will be able to get hooked up with that rate. :teeth:

Either way, not gonna let it get me down. I AM GOING TO DISNEYWORLD!!!

Here's hoping everyone gets the rate they need to make their dreams a reality. :wizard:

A manager just told me that she's so very very sorry that i've had this kind of treatment...she is going to see if she can get the FL Resident rate approved for my stay....keep ya posted

Chris-
Have you tried for an AAA rate lately? There may have been some cancelations.
My mother is classic example. She is coming home from Coronado today. When she tried to book they were completely sold out except for a suite and she didn't want that. Finally 6x later she got it. Then applied the AAA code when I asked her if she got her discount. So keep trying.

Also the one night deposit you would have had to pay weather or not you booked under rack or AAA so I am not sure what you mean by that one.

I have seen AP rates run out. Last year for my trip when AP codes came out for Oct- Dec. I was right on the phone and I did see a lot of posts that people were NOT able to get what they wanted or had to keep trying and trying or didn't get anything at all because they were sold out. They only allot so many rooms with this discount and it can be tough.

Just keep trying!

Have you asked for the AAA rate today? I know that I gave up 9 nights at the AAA rate once I got the AP rate...bet lots of other people did, too.

Have you asked for the AP rate for every single resort in your price range? I know that my DH has wanted to stay at the CR since he was a kid..last night I asked him what he wanted me to do if the CR wasn't available...would he switch resorts to save $900? He said "Absolutely!!!"
