Complaining about the volume of FP threads

There are too many FP/FP+ threads. Some are constructive, some not. However, I think everyone has the right to create them, read, reply, etc.

The problem, in my mind, is that "non-FP" threads are getting more difficult to find. What I would propose to the board masters is that there should be a "Theme Park Attractions and Strategies" forum for non-FP threads and create a new "Fastpass + Discussions" forum for all FP threads. I realize that there is a lot of crossover, but I think it would make things easier.

It is interesting that this thread has been allowed to remain on the TAPS board while others of the same nature have been quickly moved to the Community Board. Of course, if this helps drive traffic to the DIS and the TAPS board, i can see why they moderate the TAPS board the way they do. That is not a criticism at all, just merely an observation. If I owned the DIS, i would do the same thing maybe even encourage the more vocal FP+ critics to keep expressing their opinions.

Again, FP+ is only a BIG deal to a percentage of people, not all but it is a hot topic of debate. That is why you see the FP+ threads grow the way they do. Well, that and the constant off topic postings among those threads.

I'm curious to see which way opinions fall once the general public, eg, not Disboarders, hit Disney World during Spring Break and this Summer. Some will have gone to WDW before and others will be newbies but all will only be allowed 3 FPs/park/day (as of now) and some of those may not get prime rides at all. The only upside I saw to FP+ was the ability to sleep in but now between tiering and only 3 FPs, that's out the window and it's all about rope drop IF riding is important and to my gang, it is.

Sure, many of the posts by the "few" prolific posters (we know who we are.. no need to use code language) repeat previously stated arguments. But just as many on with the opposite opinion also do.

I'll bet if we started a Fantasy League with points awarded for number of posts just expressing opinions about FP+ (not presenting pure facts), there would be 10 FP+ "detractors" selected before there would be 5 (or maybe even 1)FP+ "defenders". And that even counts people who are more in the neutral category as "defenders". As you said, you know who those top 10 draft picks would be, so there's no need to name them.

If bonus points were awarded for purely "humorous" comments that add no substance to any discussion, and replies to them, there would truly be no contest.

I made my issues and concerns with FP+ a looooong time ago so I don't feel a need to rehash it every time. I find the whole thing to be a "joke", no matter how many times someone tries to blow smoke up my......um...you get it. It works for you, fine. Don't tell me how to change my touring style to accommodate it to fit your touring style. There are just as many as those types of replies here as anything else.

Of course that is just my opinion. :rolleyes1

Sure, many of the posts by the "few" prolific posters (we know who we are.. no need to use code language) repeat previously stated arguments. But just as many on with the opposite opinion also do. That's the nature of the beast, though. Heck... you can still find debates over the merits of taking a midday break. Those threads invariably repeat the same arguments of "midday breaks are essential" and "we don't bother with them." That's ok. The topic is obviously meaningful to those discussing it.

I think this is a fair point.

Head over to the Resorts Board, and see how many POR vs POFQ threads there are .... You might be able to argue there should be a POR/FQ sub category, but their isn't. And this has been going on, daily, for as long as I have been on the boards, that is in fact one of the reasons I joined the boards and began to post, I was debating POR vs POFQ.

Or how many threads are there about Free Dining vs RO discounts on the discount board !!?!?!? Crazy talk.

Lets all just be civil, and understand we will have different points of view and that no one is forcing you to read threads you don't want to ?

I actually don't have any issue with threads specifically about FP+.

What is more irritating is the tendency recently for everything to be derailed into a rant on the subject.

Throwing out a different point of view here....I haven't complained about FP+ threads on the boards, but in my head I just sigh and pass them by.I would like to see a subforum for these threads, and here's why.

We are not among those who visit every year. In fact, I don't see us going back for at least two more years. Even with that being the case, I enjoy reading the boards and learning about the new things and looking forward to a visit. I think we can all agree that FP+ could be quite a different animal three years from now. So for those of us who won't be going to WDW any time soon, all of this logistical and detail discussion is a moot point and just so much chatter - to us. We will figure it out when our time comes.

Now, understand that that I am NOT saying it doesn't have a huge impact on the vacations of those who are going soon. I have a friend who just returned so I realize how much it has changed normal trip planning. But those of us who are visiting six, ten months, two years or five years from now, there is no point talking about it because everything could change. We just would like to go back to talking about age limits at BBB, bathing in the fountains and cans of corn (look it up). That was much more fun.

Well, I see that this thread has now been moved to the "community board" (which is fine). I think it is interesting to note that, before it was sent here to die, this thread generated four pages of replies in one day, while the thread that I started at the same time consisting of purely "theme park strategy" content (100% positive on tone with no mention whatsoever of FP+) is now at the bottom of page three with zero replies.

Conclusion: FP+ is a hot topic that will continue to generate much debate, both positive and negative. Other helpful strategy topics continue to average a handful of posts if any.

ETA: I will no longer be one of the people contributing to the discussions of the "line reservation system that shall not be named." I'm sure the DIS will instantly become all rainbows and unicorns now that I have taken this step. Rest assured, I have not been pressured in any way by a moderator not to discuss this topic. It's 100% a personal decision.

I do reserve the right, however, to post "purely humorous comments that add no substance to any discussion" along with copius amounts of cartoons and emoticons.
