Comparison: Nj Beaches Vs Vero's

Any S.J. folks out there been to Vero beach ? How does the beach there compare to say Wildwood or Ocean City ? My DW doesn't like swimming in water she can't see her feet in. She loved the beaches of Jamacia. How's Vero ?

not been to vero, but been to daytona whioch i would assume is very close.

Those beaches have water much clearer than here in NJ, not quite like the carribean but close. So I assum vero would be the same as i think its related alot to the plant life in the water.

Yes, the water is much clearer at Vero, but as MikeK pointed out, it's not as deep blue or as clear as the carribean. Also, the beach it self is very narrow compared to NJ's beaches. From the water line to the dunes, it can't be 50 feet. And there are almost no waves. The resort is beautiful, and very relaxing.

Is the beach tidal like Jersey beaches, I mean,50 ft beach is at hi tide,not low,correct ?

I think the water quality would be considered better than in NJ. However, it is "different". I like to think of it as a "wild" beach. The beach itself is nothing like Wildwood or Ocean City. The size varies due to the ocean conditions but is never very wide and it backs up directly into the dunes. When you are standing at the backdoor of the resort you see a dune of vegitation and then the water....you don't even really see the sand except for at an angle.

Also, keep in mind the beach in front of the resort is unguarded. But, the water has the same riptides etc. that you find in NJ beaches. In other words, use caution. If you want a lifeguard, there is one at the public beach within walking distance or at the beaches in Vero.

Can't really see your feet, but the water is a little warmer. So's the air temp.

If you walk north to the public beach, there is a little shop which has ice cream and other goodies. It's a cut above your usual convenience store, but slimmer selection. At least it is a nice destination or stopping place to walk to. Otherwise, it's all condos.......

The beaches in NJ are WIDE (especially wildwood) as compared to Vero.

Literally only 40-50 feet from the "boardwalk" to the water.

Not huge crashing waves either.

But very nice.

Sand texture is different too

The waves depend on the weather out at sea. Sometimes it is smooth as a lake and other times it will give you the crashing waves (that sometimes rip out the steps to the beach). Surfers seem to come out to the area to the left of the resort.

I have to agree with Pam on this one. We were there early this month and a storm was churning far out at sea. Most people did not actually swim in the water as it was VERY rough. There were surfers north of the resort that seemed to be having fun. We have also been there when it was much calmer. Overall it is a very beautiful setting and even though we didn't "swim" in the ocean, we did wade and walk the beach several times. I grew up on the Jersey Shore and would give up a whole summer at Point Pleasant or Seaside for a week at Vero!

We were at VB from 11/29 - 12/2. I know absolutely nothing about tides and I've never been to the Jersey beaches, so keep that in mind.

At times (I'm assuming this would be high tides), the ocean was all the way up to and over the lower part of the wooden bridge/walkway that stretched from the resort down to the beach. At what I think was low tide, the beach was about 50 feet from the bottom of the walkway to the water/waves. Hope that answers your question.

While we were there, there were cautions posted about rip tides and Portugese Man O' War that had been spotted in the area. Neither seemed to bother the boogie board people or the swimmers at the public beach. Very few people were on the beach near the resort. It was like having your own private beach (even if it was a little narrow, LOL).

We loved VB and hope to return soon.

Yes, I'm positive on this one! You need to check out Vero! BTW if you're from Monroe in Middlesex County we're neighbors!

I have a summer home in Sea Isle City and have been to Vero 3 times so I know both shores well.Let me start by saying that I like the Jersey Shore much better.The beach at Vero is very narrow and drops off fast.Ther are no people on the Vero beach with very little to do.The good thing about Vero is that it is warm in the winter.I can t use my Sea Isle home to swim in Jan,,but can drop up to Atlantic City.

And I still love these NJ beaches -- for now, until we get to Vero
Beach and compare!

We own at HH and have been there several times, in Aug. The HH beaches are great i.e. long, wide & roomy. The water was quite clear. We are from Jersey, but rarely go to the jersey shore, finding the beaches to be crowded & less than clean. We commented that if the HH beaches were at the Jersey shore, we might consider going to the beach more often. We have only gone to VB once, in March, and were not as impressed w/ Vero's beaches. Not as roomy & we experienced alot of ocean debris. But we were there right after a very severe storm. IMHO, the Vero beaches are better than Jersey shore, but not as great as HH.

Vero water is warmer. The beach is very narrow, and it drops off sharply and quickly when you get into the water. The water is no where near as clear as in the Carribean, but it is somewhat clearer tha NJ. The resort is MUCH, MUCH, MUCH nicer than ANY Jersey Shore hotel/motel could ever dream of being. There aren't a lot of people on the beach. You can find more "stuff" washed up, and a lot less cigarette butts. The surf can be VERY rough. It ripped my sons watch off his arm! That was enough for me, he was then banned from being in the ocean, or even on the beach unless one of us was with him. I'm not aware of any areas in the Vero area that are like Sandy Hook's Parking Lot G, if that's your thing.
