I think POR has been my top choice since wanting to plan this trip. Me DH DS8 DD5. (first mini trip we stayed POP). But POR is the most expensive of our options. If we dont stay POR what would be your next choice?

CBR vs CSR? How,if any, does POR top these?

And are any of these worth the extra $450+ not to stay at POP?

TIA

IMO, ANY mod is worth the upcharge over a value resort, due to the extra amenities they provide. Actually, the queen beds alone are sufficient for me.

Of the 2 resorts, I like CBR better, but its really just a matter of personal preference. The fact that the CBR rooms just finished a major refurbishment may be an extra inducement.

I am in the same boat as you. I am planning a trip for our family of 4. My children are quite a bit older than yours so it starts to get more expensive. We have stayed POR (which we loved) and the Cabins at FW (which we did not Love but didn't hate either). The beds (queen) and comfort at POR were great. Not a ton of room for the 4 of us, but we managed. Full size beds at FW (which is what Pop has) were not comfy. They were really hard. For us, the comfort is worth the extra $400+ dollars. We will be spending a lot of money and to not be comfortable and get a good night sleep just wouldn't work.

I have stayed at all the moderates. I would rank them:

CSR -- I've stayed here twice and loved it both times. We were in the Cabanas section both times which was close to the pool and the food court. The pool is really cool. I love the pyramid water fall and the slide.
CBR -- I stayed here in 2001 before the renovations but I really liked it. I would pay extra for a preferred room since the resort is so spread out.
POFQ -- I also liked POFQ. It may be a better choice for your kids if they are not proficient in the water. The pool is great for little swimmers and the slide is very mild. It's a great beginner pool. It is also quite small and easy to get around.
POR -- Frankly, I did not like POR. I was stuck in a room in Alligator Bayou that was really far away from everything and there was no direct way to get to the main pool or the food court. The twisty turny paths made me crazy. If I would stay there again, I would definitely book in the Mansions section since the paths are straight!

Is it $450 for 7 days? Hmmmm ... I'm not sure if that would be worth it to me. That's $65 per day extra for (1) lusher grounds, (2) a table service restaurant (not at POFQ), (3) a pool slide, (4) a hot tub, (5) slightly bigger rooms, and (6) slightly nicer rooms. That's two CS meals. If you have the extra money, then it is a treat over the Value resorts :).

We only spent 2 nights at Pop prior to a cruise and DH says there is no way he can spend 6+ nights there,so....

Another question... Do you think they will have a room discount for May?

It is $468 more from Pop to POR for 6 nights if my calculations are correct. A little less for CBR CSR.

I think they all have their perks. Loved POFQ because it's small, compact, everything is close and only 1 bus stop. But the food court is limited. Love the boat to DTD. It's my favorite mod so far.
POR was fine, but both trips we had really bad busses so it kind of ruined it, but I love the food court and boat to DTD, I would stay there again no problem though.
CSR everyone loves, but it was just ok for us. Very convention like, but there were 2 conventions back to back while we were here, and one of them was obnoxious. The foodcourt was the worst of all of them so far for us. But did love the beach, fitness center, buses were great since most of the resort was at the convention and not going to the parks. We actually rebooked CSR even though it wasn't our fav when FD came out, because it was the only mod with availability, so didn't hate it, it just was OK. We are trying CBR in Nov since it opened up for our dates. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the mods.

I would stay at POR for the food court. I think it's the best of all the food courts.

My favorite is actually POFQ, because of the smaller size, and the quaint feeling it has.

CSR is way to big for me. Just feels like it's so spread out.

CBR is just ok to me, although if they just recently finished a refurbishment, I would consider it.

I would go for French Quarter. It's smaller in size and everything is close by. I've stayed at them all I think that is a good place for you to start at a mod. With kids that age I would stay there, if they were older I would suggest a different place.

I've been to POR, CBR, and CSR and liked them all.

When comparing them for our trip next year, CSR comes out on top for better bus service, multiple eateries, upgraded beds, quiet rooms, deluxe-lite amenities, and awesome Dig Site area.

My favorite is POFQ followed by CBR, my least favorite of all of WDW resorts is CSR I would stay at POP and save the $$ before staying at CSR again.

POR and POFQ both have lots of charm, in my opinion. POR feels the most deluxe to me, while it's hard to find a more convenient resort than POFQ in terms of size and convenience to the busses, food court, and gift shop.

That said, if I had the choice between the two, POR gets the win for how beautiful the grounds are, the wonderful food court, unique entertainment including carriage rides and Yehaa Bob, who is a must-see, and a full service restaurant. I feel like I am truly away at POR and for the price, think it was well worth every penny.

Thank you all. We watched some resort videos, and the whole family agrees POR is probably our favorite, followed by CBR. Now, to see if it will fit the budget.

POR is gorgeous. If it has been on your mind I would go for it! :)

POP is our favorite Value if you do end up staying.
Our order of mods goes
POR
POFQ
CSR
CBR

Your mileage may vary.

We adore POR! The size of the resort has absolutely no bearing on our feelings. We have always been in the back of the resort in AB and it is our location of choice. We love the wandering pathways since we are not in the habit of rushing around without taking in our environment. If I was so inclined I would reserve a preferred room but we always get standard.

To each his or her own!!

Remember that Friday and Saturday night stays cost more than other nights so if you are planning a short stay and can avoid the weekend, all the better for your wallet....

We could have stayed in a value and saved about $500 but I opted for a moderate instead because I actually plan on using the resort amenities. I love queen beds and hot tubs plus the kids love the slides in the pools. If you can do it I would do a moderate.
