Comparing coasters there to ones here?

Just out of interest, are any of the coasters in Florida comparable to any in this country, eg. the Duelling Dragons look vaguely similar to The Nemesis at Alton Towers although I'm guessing it's not once you see it in the flesh.

Are there any that you can compare with ~UK coasters?

The major coasters in Florida are on a totally different level to anything we have in the UK.

The Hulk, Duelling Dragons, Kraken, Rock n Roller Coaster, Montu, Kumba, and Gwazi are all better than any coaster in the UK IMHO, although Nemesis does get close to some of these.

Personally, the only UK ride that gets in my top ten currently is Oblivion, a truly unique ride which still leaves me breathless.

Remember it's just not coasters in Florida as well, Spiderman really does have to be seen to be believed. It's awesome, as one American said in 1999 when we went on with him.

You won't be disappointed!!!

Ooh yes, right there with you on the oblivion, it's the only ride that still has me waiting in the queue wondering why I'm doing it again, and I've been on it over 20 times (season tickets!) It's just not lost that fear factor like others do.

Can't wait to do Hulk & Duelling dragons as I've not done them before

Out of the two I prefer the Hulk, although I do sometimes have to have a sit down after doing it!!!!

Out of all the coasters in Florida though I think Kraken is my favourite. We rode it countless times in 2000 and never got sick of it, I can't wait to ride it again in 5 weeks time.

Busch coasters are great too, Montu is my favourite although Kumba isn't far behind.

So much choice......and there's Disney as well!!!!!

p.s. What do you think of Air ? Slightly overrated imo but still a blast.

I've not done it yet!

I was pregnant last year so was the bag and coat monitor while everyone else went on it! Does look good though although the general consensus was that it's fun but certainly no thrill ride.

We've not been up there yet this year, must get that sorted as soon as we get back!

Our last 2 Florida trips have been purely Disney so i've not done any coasters out there (apart from the Rock 'n' roller) since 1992, this year we're doing IOA but next time I fully intend to get on them all!!!

I Love that you have to sit down after riding The Hulk! Sounds and looks absolutely great

Another thumbs up for Kraken. It's one of the smoothest, most exhilarating coasters I've ridden. I just wish Disney would do something similar rather than the rough and bumpy things they normally put in their parks.

In terms of UK comparisions, Nemesis (Alton Towers) and Nemesis Inferno (Thorpe Park) are quite similar to the Dueling Dragons at Islands of Adventure - lots of tight, twisiting turns and sharp little drops - although neither have the extra thrill of a second coaster charging at you from time to time. What I really miss in the UK is a large, swooping coaster like Hulk or Kraken. The Big One at Blackpool or Thorpe Park's Collosus just don't cut the mustard for me.

It's not all bad news for UK fans though. Sadly Orlando doesn't have a good stand-up coaster like Shockwave at Drayton Manor. That would be a great addition to Universal or Disney. But the ride I'd most like to see given the Disney or Universal treatment would be Alton Tower's A.I.R. I'm sure that Imagineering or Universal Creative could devise a wonderful storyline around a flying coaster...

You certainly WON'T be disappointed with IOA. In 1999 we had booked to go in June and the park wasn't supposed to be open until July.

Imagine our joy when they brought the opening forward to May, yes there were crowds, but we were some of the first people to ride Hulk, Spidey and Duelling Dragons.

Even an almighty storm couldn't spoil our day, truly one of the best days we've ever had at any theme park.

The Hulk does make me a little queasy but not as bad as Goliath at Magic Mountain in California. Think Oblivion drop but with a proper roller coaster and you get something close to what it's like. Awesome.

IOA is fantastic though, I can't wait to go back....!!!

If you want a stand up coaster I'd suggest getting over to California and taking on Riddlers Revenge at Magic Mountain.

That's probably my best ride out of all the ones I've done along with Goliath at the same park.

Anyway we're talking Orlando, not LA.

I am interested to learn more about this coaster they are planning for AK, should be fun!!!!! A long way off yet though.

Just returned from LA, but sadly didn't have time for Six Flags. Still, we had a wonderful time and Disney's Screamin' coaster at DCA is lots of fun - the best Disney coaster in my opinion, or at least equal wth DLP's Space Mountain before it got so rough.

I'd heard a few negative comments but I was really impressed with DCA, and especially California Screamin which I thought was excellent.

Did you go on Soarin over Califorina? It was the first ride we went on during the holiday and the best IMHO. Absolutely breathtaking, especially the smells and the golf ball.

About time they put something similar in WDW I would think?

I agree, I wasn't expecting much from DCA becuase of the negative comments in the 'net. However, we really enjoyed it and spent more time ther ethan I had anticipated. It makes a really great contrast with Disneyland.

Soarin' is quite simply WONDERFUL! We rode it time and time again. It has a great single rider line, so we avoided the v. long queues that always snaked out of the door. I really hope that Orlando and Paris get a version. "Soarin' over Europe" would be a sight to behold I'm sure, although "Soarin' over Florida" might have a certain 'flatness' to it! I loved the smells (Top Tip: try and sit in the upper tier for a stronger sniff!) and the music. I have the ride music on my PC at home, so frequently listen to it as I type. Wonderful...

This is a difficult subject. I'm not sure if we really can compare our UK coasters, to those that they have in Florida!
They just seem - so "sorta different", although that is a stupid thing to say!!!!!!

I love all the coasters at BG and IOA, yet I went to AT last month and yes, while there was the initial excitement as it was the first time i had been, it was not a patch on WDW/ Universal!

IMHO, Oblivion just did not do it for me at all.
The actual 'drop' is not that high really,and as for the looking down bit, well it just seemed like that's what you do on all rollercoasters don't you???I queued and went on it, but won't be disappointed if never go on it again.

Of all the stuff at AT, i reckon (as did my boyfriend) that Nemesis was the best! It had more of a "thrill factor" than AIR!

Yes, completely agree there! I think the best thing about this one was just the experience of like flying thru the air, but the "ride" itself was a bit disappointing.
And yes, flying!!!! God those seats are some contraption, but a good job, cos as soon as i was hoisted into the flying position i wasn't actually sitting in my seat no more ---- just literally resting against the seat restraint!!!!

IMO Air and Oblivion are both good, nemesis inferno is ok. I do not like Collossus it is such a rough ride.

At IoA the hulk is brill, I didn't get to ride duelling dragons or Kraken but I will be this time.
