Compare WDW rides to US/IOA rides

I am sorry if this has been asked a hundred times, but I am new to this particular forum. I'm usually on the WDW ones. I am helping my brother plan his family's vacation to US/IOA, but have never been there. My brother and I do not ride thrill rides. Splash Mountain and Star Tours are about as wild as we get. I have listed some US/IOA rides and given what I think is the Disney comparisons. Please make corrections or additions as needed. Thanks.

Spiderman isn't really like Star tours. I'd say it is more like Dinosaur.

Thanks for the info. Keep them coming. My brother will kill me if I recommend a ride to him and he ends up spinning, flipping upside down, etc. His kids love that stuff, but not him.

Could someone elaborate on these comparisons a bit? I am the world's biggest chicken when it comes to rides, but I REALLY would like to do Forbidden Journey. It took a lot of nerve and "mental prep" for me to go on Soarin', but I enjoyed it. The descriptions and YouTube vids I've seen of FJ make it sound much more intense than Soarin', though. Also, I'm not crazy about big hills/drops on rides -- Splash Mountain is doable, though. Is the JP ride similar? I was under the impression the hill at the end was MUCH steeper.

Some commentary/comparison for Mummy would also be appreciated, another one I "want" do to but may be too chicken!

I'm on the fence about Juraissic Park. If the drop is worst than Splash Mountain, then that ride might get crossed off the list. Harry Potter might be another casualty. The Mummy is already on my Do-Not-Ride list. My list is getting shorter and shorter.

Harry Potter is nothing like Soarin. You move in a much more intense, and much more fun, way than the snooze inducing Epcot attraction. The mummy is a bit like Everest with a little more scare thrown in.

I'm on the fence about Juraissic Park. If the drop is worst than Splash Mountain, then that ride might get crossed off the list. Harry Potter might be another casualty. The Mummy is already on my Do-Not-Ride list. My list is getting shorter and shorter.

Splash's drop is 53 ft., Jurassic Park is 85 ft I believe.

You are going to get a LOT of responses.

Mine are based on the fact that I don't like coasters, or thrill rides, or dark rides, and motion rides make me incredibly ill. Yeah, I know, what's left?


At US/IOA:

Harry Potter: loved the theming, the ride made me incredibly ill. Too much motion and animatronics all rolled into one. I actually closed my eyes for much of it, but did want to experience it. Well worth the walk through.

Soarin': love this ride, the only thing we do at Epcot, then we leave. Never makes me ill.


Jurassic Park: yes, it's a big drop, but it was over so quickly, and I knew it was coming, so it didn't bother me too much, did it twice. Also, whenever there is a drop, I always sit in middle, seems to help.

Mummy, though intense, was not too bad either, surprisingly. I just didn't want to spend my day walking around w/o trying some things, this was one I hesitated on, but managed, once.


Spiderman was also ok. Not something I would do over and over.

I felt Disaster and Twister were pretty lame, so very manageable.


I would not do Buzz Lightyear, but enjoyed Men in Black, did that one twice. I was trying to beat DS on score, so it kept me preoccupied.


I wasn't going for total comparison, ride to ride. Based more on things I don't like compared to rides I did.

I would compare the motion in HP Forbidden Journey to the motion in Sum of All Thrills at Innoventions in EPCOT. I was told the motion technology was the same. Add a simulator screen and moving track to SoaT, and you have Forbidden Journey.

Is that your real question? What rides spin and go upside down? What is the etc part there?

I feel like it would be better to get the real question, rather than just asking for comparisons.

Why is Mummy on your no-ride list? It's mainly a dark ride with mummies and controlled fire. And then it is a fairly short, pretty fun, coaster.

With Forbidden Journey your seat is controlled by a robot arm that takes you up and down and flops you a bit, and you have animatronic things around you (and more controlled fire), and videoscreens to watch.

Even though JP's drop is bigger, I like it better than Splash; Splash feels worse to me.

Any ride that is equal to or worse than Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at WDW is a definite no. Dinosaur in Animal Kingdom is okay (barely).

I am basing Forbidden Journey on my neighbor's remark to me. She rides everything at US/IOA. She loves thrill rides, but she said that she was sick all day after she rode Forbidden Journey. She felt dizzy and nauseated.

Why does Splash Mountain feel worse to you? Is the drop more steep?

I think I'll be okay on Mummy. Never ridden Dinosaur but I'm always surprised at a bad reaction about BTMR. That's a ride I consider quite tame as roller coasters go -- it's jerky but not "scary" at all. And my kids won't hesitate to tell you what a chicken (excuse me, big fat chicken!) I am! Heck, I'll tell you myself! I dunno, I just don't have a problem with it. I've also done Space Mountain many times, though I admit that the last time I rode (3rd time that day) I was a bit dizzy at exit. I wouldn't go on Rock It (?) at The Studios, haven't done Mission Space or Star Tours. The simulator stuff is what freaks me out (hence my hesitation to ride FJ).

I've tried watching video of Forbidden Journey but they're all so dark I can't really get a good feel for it. Is there a vid anywhere that shows you the seat movement, in the light, instead of the screen?
