Hey everyone,

Just trying to imagine how big Disney world is.... can you compare it to a Canadian City so I have an idea of what to expect?? What about park sizes? etc.

:) Thanks!

The entire Walt Disney World Resort is 47.00 sq mi or 121.7 km2.

Regina, in comparison, is 45.9 sq mi or 118.87 km2.

Wikipedia has a pretty good description of the history and size of the resort as well as links to the history of the parks and hotels. Here is the link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walt_Disney_World

I have read that it's the size of Ottawa.

Not even close. Downtown Ottawa is about 180 sq mi and the entire city is over 1000, it's very spread out. In addition to Regina, Moncton is close at 54 sq mi

WDW is pretty large. It helps if you are staying in one of the WDW resorts to get the extra benefits. Like Extra Magic Hours, where the park either opens early or stays open later just for People staying on site. Parcel delivery back to your resort, so you don't have to lug bags of suvies around, dining plan, free airport pick up & return.

For a first visit, don't expect to be able to see it all. Most recommend doing-
For the average week stay:
2 days MK
2 days Epcot
1 day DHS
1 day AK

Pick up a couple of guide books. I like Passporter & WDW-The Unofficial Guide.

Enjoy your first visit! Very exciting.

As others have said, it is huge but really spread out too.

I've been many times and we still haven't seen all of it. There is always something new popping up.

As you have read, it's a big place. But the entire property being quoted includes the 4 theme parks, at least 20 resorts, some of which are huge, a shopping village and all kinds of highways and major roads.

Park size varies by park and wikipedia is your best source for this but if you want to context it to a place you have been, let us know what other theme attractions you have been to. While they all vary in size, they all feel about the same- Sea World, Universal Studios........but Magic Kingdom probably has the most attractions per square foot I am guessing. It's definitely a 2 or 3 day park to see and do it all.

WDW is best done with lots of planning. Even veterans plan their visit around park hours, fireworks, extra magic hours, dining reservations, etc. Get yourself a planning book like the Birnbaum and educate yourself on what these parks have to offer and what you think your family will enjoy. There are You Tube video on almost every attraction so if you aren't sure go there ( if you don't mind a spoiler).

I find the planning is a great way to get excited and tons of fun.
