Compact Vs. Spread Out

Which of the resorts are the most compact? We stayed at ASMu and were a little frustrated with the length of the walk to the main building (we were at the very back of the resort), but then we visited my ILs staying at Coronado Springs, and were amazed at how spread out that place is. We went by Pop Century on the Mears Shuttle to Universal, and that looked really spread out, too.

Just curious.. :)

The only Deluxe Resorts that are spread out is the Polynesian and Grand Floridian since they have multiple buildings, however they aren't as bad compared to the Value and Moderate Resorts. So that means all the other Deluxe Resorts have their rooms, stores, restaurants in one main building. Now the Contemporary also has a Garden Wing section along with their Tower rooms, however that's just one little building and not a long walk. Also the majority of the stores and restaurants at the Boarwalk are located outside on the Boardwalk itself, however it's not a long walk. Finally I haven't actually visited these DVC Resorts but from what I have seen Saratoga Springs and Old Key West look to be very much spread out.

I think it is a matter of perception. While you have deluxes that are all contained within one building, you can still have a long walk to certain things. We stay at the CSR which is a large resort and spread out (which we actually enjoy); my best friend stayed at the AKL a few years ago and he had a longer walk from his suite there to the pool/food than he did from the convention center at the CSR to the furthest room in the furthest section. I've also had a longer walk at the Contemporary to the pool and food than I ever have at the CSR...it just depends on where your room is located.

supposedly the PO mods are not as bad as others, otherwise for the most part the deluxe are the least all over, not count dvc properties

PO, French Quarter is supposedly the most compact. YC/BC is very spread out, while under one roof the corridors seem to go on for miles. You can, however, exit out through fire doors and cut across the lawn, that's what we do to save time and get to the boat launch easier. It truly is a matter of perception.

Our personal opinion is the Port Orleans French Quarter and the Wilderness Lodge are the most compact. (and have queen size beds vs full)

I would PO French Quarter for Mods.. Animal Kingdom Lodge and the Boardwalk for Deluxes and if I would also recommend POP (with a preferred room). I think PO French Quarter is the smallest.

Just got back yesterday from Port Orleans French Quarter. EXCELLENT mod and definitely VERY compact! The refurbished rooms are very nice too. DH and I don't know if we'll ever pay for a deluxe again -- that good of a stay at French Quarter! Quiet too! We had a river-facing room -- nice and tranquil.
