My two previous trips, as you can see in my signature, have been during coolers months; however, we went to WDW last August and it was HOT and we enjoyed ourselves. Both my mom and DD13 are asthmatic so we were concerned about that. Fortunately, neither one of them had a problem breathing; they actually both had issues once we got home because of pollen, etc. (I think their breathing issues are more with colder weather, but we were still concerned). Anyway, we are the commando-type family. At the parks right after rope drop (or right before) and stay the entire day/night. No breaks back to the hotel. We usually scheduled a table service meal during the day so we could have an hour or so break in the air conditioning. As long as you wear a hat, use plenty of sunscreen (none of us got burned because we reapplied frequently) and drink plenty of water you'll be fine. (FWIW, my mom and I are both Pooh-sized, so I think we probably had more of an issue with the heat than most, but it still wasn't too bad). The only day that was miserable was the Wednesday we went to the AK. It was over an hour wait for to bus with no shade (ASMo). By the time we got the park and started to walk around, both DD and I looked at each other and decided to go back to the hotel. It's just too hot at AK. The only issue we had with going during the summer is the amount of stuff you carry -- purse, water bottle, hat (on and off during the rides/shows, etc.), camera and we made the mistake of taking big misting fans which we filled with cold water. Everything was just too heavy. After the first day we ditched the big misting fans, I switched to a fanny pack and we only brought 1 bottle of water each instead of 2. During the cooler/winter months you don't need to carry water or a hat and you can stuff most of your belongings in your pockets.
We would hit the park @ opening (or EMH) and stay until lunchtime. At or after lunch, we'd go back to the hotel (Yacht Club) and swim all afternoon. We'd then head into a park for dinner and stay a few hours once the sun went down..... it "felt" cooler then
We stayed hydrated by drinking plenty of water, made sure we wore hats and plenty of sunscreen
