Commando touring with an 8yr old

Our kids at 7 & 9 were total park commandos. We were there over 4th of July at the time and we went all day long for 4 days. Then we did 2 afternoons at TL and BB and went to the parks at night. We even did the old E-nights one night and they kept up until after 1am. My dd got awful blisters on her feet that she didn't tell us about because she didn't want to miss any park time. Luckily it was about then that we were doing the water parks so she got a break. We look back on it now and laugh because they were so much better about getting up and going to RD then than they are now as adults!

How about you do what works for you and I do what works for me?

I will never understand why a person's choice that differs from their own requires some people to insult others. If you can't say something nice........

Perhaps you're a little over sensitive about your "choice", as there was nothing insulting about my post.

I have a 7 and 9 year old. Commando would not end well for them...it would turn into whining, complaining, etc. They need the break. Even one on one they'd need the break. They like to swim though so they'd be harassing me to get back to the pool anyway so there's that....

I think it depends on the child and the heat. Is this an indoor video kid? Or, is this a bike-riding running around all day athletic kid? We took our grandkids and they did alright but we broke up the day to end by 1pm. We just took our 12-yr old and he wilted in the heat and humidity and could not keep up with his 56 yr & 61 yr old grands. The heat and humidity was too much and he said his legs hurt. He is more of an indoor kid and wasn't used to the multi-mile walking

I would agree with both, we go in August and there's no way my kids can do more than 3 or 4 hours in the parks due to the heat. Also like Hisgirl pointed out, some kids are way more active than others. I would take my cues from your kid, if they are ready to go back to the hotel and relax, that's what I would do. I have found in our trips over the years to plan less and not stretch the kids to the point of a meltdown - which is never magical. This trip I am mixing it up completely based on what my kids could take regarding touring in the August heat (last summer's trip was less than magical)- no breakfast ADR's and have a quick service in our room, pool all morning / afternoon (which my kids love) and going to the parks for an early dinner (5PM) & hopefully fun evening touring the parks afterwards till 9 or 10pm.
