Coming changes to MCO...

I knew that Airsides 1 and 3 had some renovations happening, but I didn't know that GOAA planned to shuffle the airlines around.

I also never realized that there was such a disparity in the amount of traffic through the security checkpoints. I've seen it back up a bit on the east side, but I tend to travel on low-traffic days of the week and in low-traffic times of the year, so I've never had to wait more than about 30 minutes to get through security.

I flew Delta once in 1992, and AirTran once in 2002. Delta and AirTran are both in Airside 4, so that puts my most recent experience with Airside 4 at almost seven years ago. I don't remember it very well.

I flew US Air Metrojet several times through the 90s. It's been a long time, but I think that all of the Metrojet flights I took came into Airside 3. The last time I flew Metrojet was October 2000, nine years ago, so I don't really remember much about that building, either.

All of my flights since 2002 have been on Southwest, which operates in Airside 2. I'm most familiar with that building and I actually like it. There are several fast food offerings, a smattering of shops, plenty of restrooms, and lots of comfortable seating.

I glanced at the article and it says OIA which, I don't think anyway, is the same airport as MCO?

OIA stands for Orlando International Airport. Locals always refer to it as OIA.

MCO is the three-letter IATA code used for Orlando International Airport. Whenever you book a flight or a rental car, the code MCO will save you from typing in "Orlando, FL", and it's used as a quick and simple abbreviation on the DIS for that reason. MCO comes from the fact that Orlando International Airport began life as McCoy Air Force Base.

MCO cannot change to IOA, because IOA is already in use by Ioannina National Airport, in Ioannina, Greece.

Thanks for the clarification. I thought the article was for Orlando Executive Airport, which may or may not be OEA in airport lingo. After 18 trips for WDW, the MCO is ingrained in my brain and will never leave.

Orlando Executive Airport's IATA code is ORL.
