Comforter question

I honestly think that it should be made a law that hotels must change everything on the bed between guests. How many posts have we read about people getting ill at Disney and being confined to be for some days, you really think none of them come in contact with the bedspread? and couples on honeymoon or "whatever" do they always get INTO the bed?
Yeah the bedspreads are the first thing to go with me. and I always bring my own pillow.

Okay let me make sure I am getting this right.....

I go and check in and sleep in the beds and then check out.

Next family comes in and the sheets and/or bedspread is not changed?

So I am essentially using a 'dirty' bed spread?

I don't mind them not changing the sheets/bedspread that I slept in while there, but they must put clean sheets/bedspreads between guests right?

If that is the case...I am asking for fresh everything when I get there!

The sheets get changed between guests, just not the bedspreads (and probably not the blankets either).
Caling housekeeping to change the spread does not necessarily mean that the one you get is freshly cleaned, either! It may just be re-cycled from another room!
I always remove the spread before getting into the bed.
And I noticed last week that housekeeping @ CBR did not give us clean drinking glasses every day-they were just rinsed out! UGH! We drank out of the disposable styrofoam coffe cups after seeing that!

Brooke TX,
Former Chambermaid here: Hotels change the sheets between guests, they do NOT change or wash the bedspreads or blankets between guests unless there has been an obvious accident of some sort and they are clearly dirty.
they wash the blankets and bedspreads anywhere between once a month and once in three months or so. This has been the case in the vast majority of hotels for ever basically.
Some hotels now have gone to the Duvet instead of blanket/bedspread combo. with these the duvet is covered in a sheet cover which can easily be washed and is changed between guests.

Amen to that! I honestly don't quite understand it...I guess I have enough to worry about in life rather than packing sanitizer for my vacation.

There was another thread on here where a woman was taking an extra suitcase so she could pack her own bedspreads to take with her....because she was worried about the cleanliness, and she didn't like the quilt pattern on the ones at her resort. And yes...she was serious!!!! (Insert cuckoo-bird smiley here!)

I agree 100% I go on vacation to not worry about anything. I go to have fun. The time goes by so fast. Why waste time cleaning something I dont even do at home. I hire people to clean at home so Im sure they do the same thing oh well I am still alive.

I see your point about not getting all stressed on vacation. But your comparison of your home bedding is stretching it. After all, those are your spills and um, bodily fluids on your sheets, blankets and comforters. My son drools like a St. Bernard all night long. I am okay with that, he's my kid. But I feel sort of sorry for the next guest!

I wish WDW would do the duvet cover thing. Its so nice, not a cure all for every possible germ, but still a step in the right direction!

And I have to say, I think the germ factor isn't the big deal. Because I am n ot sure how long germs can live on a surface such as a bedspread. But there is a big ICK factor!

Well!!!! Reading all the "Eeeews" and "oh how gross" I have to wonder if any of you realize that your talking about each other. Your all grossed out because other folks in this thread ( and others on the topic ) have slept in your bed before you.
Basicly, your calling each other pigs :sad2:

From reading the thread it sounds like you all have less to worry about than you think.

LoL Mike! Too Funny! Some pple think different is all.

Ok I use to work for a major Hotel Chain and I can tell you it comes down from head Quarters. Because they would have to purchase the comforters more often if they washed them every time. And this particular chain only washed the comforter every 6 months and the blankets once every 3 months. Now that I am a Mother of 3 and have also seen those shows. So gross. I do carry hand santizer and yes we use it after every ride. My youngest gets sick way to easy and we do not need that on our trip. The bedspread and blankets go on the floor We take our own blankets and pillows Ummm Oh Yeah the Pillows are never washed!

THe lysol goes with us every where also. Ok I never though I was much of a germ aphobia but I guess I am. :goodvibes Oh well! No One complains over here .

my last trip We stayed at New Orleans FQ And so gross the bathroom was not even cleaned i will not tell you all the gross details. But when I called up front the lady says " yeah so!"" " What do want me to do about it?" :headache: umm hello! Clean it!

I have another friend though who stayed at Pop century and pulled the bed spread down ( it was very late and her kids were exhausted after a long trip down) to find Blood on the sheets. OMG I think I would have freaked out and asked to have another room totally.

We were on vacation in PA a year or so ago and SIL's room had red bloody looking stuff in the bathtub .... the front desk told her it was the cleaning solution they used. Not sure if I buy that one at all!?! I think she did move to another room.

I have always heard that they don't change the bedspreads between guests but do change the sheets. While it might be kinda gross, I don't find it anymore gross than thinking about where everyone's hands have been before they've touched the chains in the ride lines or the handles on the rides. I do have sanitizing wipes for the remote and phone but I don't wipe down every object that me and my family might come into contact with like the sink handles, toilet handle, sliding glass door lock/handle, dressers, etc. Gotta give your body a chance to build up immunity.

I agree. All this sanitizing gives super bugs a chance to build up immunity, which is why hospitals and other institutions are having a hard time keeping infections in check.

And has anyone stopped to think about the stress on the environment/waste water treatment if they washed EVERY blanket and EVERY bedspread between each guest? Truly wasteful.

I'm not grossed out by the bedspreads...because it sounds like most people rip them off the beds, they're probably the cleanest part of the room! :rotfl2:

I love these threads! popcorn::

Just think about it, Germaphobes... All those things on the bed spread... diapers, room service, newlyweds....

:rotfl2:

Want to hear something really gross.

I have a good friend who used to work at a ski resort, she worked the front desk. One of the guest called to complain that their child had found an adult "toy" under the bed. :rotfl: :lmao: :rotfl:

Now those dirty comforters don't sound too bad anymore, do they? :woohoo:

As SOON as i get to the room I take off the comforters and put them on the floor in the corner. Most of the time housekeeping will put them back on the beds. By the second day housekeeping realizes i DON"T want the comforters on the beds and leaves it on the floor for the rest of our stay. Next thing i do is wiped down the remote, phone and door knobs with the lysol wipes. i have been doing this for 2 years now. I read on the DIS boards 2 years ago they DON"T change the comforters. It really GROSSED me out. I not a germaphobic but justing thinking what can/does go on the comforters makes me

Count me in the camp with those who don't think about it and don't care. Yep. I like to live dangerously.:rotfl:

Okay, germaphobe here. Plus we got stomach flu last trip  and we were very germ cautious in the parks, but not in the room. It ruined 3 days of our trip, so I won't feel bad about lysol wipes and asking for new blankets. If they bring you blankets folded, can we assume they are clean?

GETTING :scared1: by this thread:lmao:

BUT I have to confess--I bring my own pillow and blankie;)
And I Febreze Anti bacteral the sheets til its wet---(it dries during the day);)
The TV remote and phone get a good wipe--as does the DOOR KNOB and sink knobs--

OH I SPEND WAY TO MUCH TIME WATCHING DATELINE:sad2: :sad2: :rotfl2:

A couple years ago when we were at POFQ and I was very sick we asked to have our comforters changed a few times that stay. And they did with no problem. I was in the room once when they came in to change linens and saw them do it. The other two times we did a 'test' and put a small sticker/tag on the inner side of the comforter and when we came back we had a new comforter. When we called to ask for more linens changed that week and explained it was b/c i was sick (fever, strep, sinus issues, etc, and I didn't want my (now) Ex to catch it) they changed our sheets everyday w/out having to be reminded or us having to call again and ask. They should accomidate your request w/out any issues

want to add any other time I'm w/ the ones that don't care about the germs. the year i got sooo sick i did the whole anti bacterial, took vitamins, washed hands religiously, lysoled everything, took the airplane anti sick stuff and everything else and ended up so sick we had to come home to take me to hospital, so i don't see that it does alot of good to do any of that extra germ killing.
