This stems from a comment on another thread...

Whenever my family and I go to ANY hotel, we immediately take the comforters from the beds. I have always heard that they are not cleaned and/or changed between guests. That seems really gross to me - never know what may be on there!

I have never thought to ask for a CLEAN comforter from housekeeping. Has anyone ever done this? Are they available for the asking?

The comforters at WDW are actually spreads, and I have seen them in the dirty's on the house keeping carts. Disney does change them after a guest checks out. I have never asked for a different one, just becuase I never felt the need to. However they are pretty good at accomadating requests, so, if you feel the need just ask I'm sure they will bring you a new one.

I have a friend that takes everything off the beds and calls for all new. Now I think this is going a bit far but she has told me that she has done it several times and they have always been very nice about giving her all new. 2 x at AKL and 1x at BWI.

Disney does not change the bedspreads or blankets after each stay. They probably do them more often than many hotels/motels but even if you see them in the laundry bins that only means that particular spread was changed. They may have them on some sort of system but I know they are not unfortunately changed after each stay. I mean if they don't change the sheets daily and ask you to reuse towels to save soap and water, you can bet they don't change the comforters. I once checked into POFQ and there was syrup (very nice maple smell) on the bedspread. I called and they brought me a new one. Then I get in bed and the blanket is the same thing! I guess somebody enjoyed their Mickey waffles in the room before we checked in! That is however, better than some of the things others have found on the bedspreads.:scared1:

Yes, you can ask for a clean one when you check in. I have done that a couple of times even when they don't smell like IHOP.

I'm sure you can ask for something else from housekeeping when you get there. I've never done it and probably never will. Germs are the last thing I worry about - on vacation, at home, at work, etc. You won't catch me with a can of lysol or bottles of purell. I finally broke down and bought a container of those lysol wipes - not to fight germs per se - but just instead of the roll of paper towels and spray bottle cleaner. My DH thought I had gone nuts and was going germaphobic on him. Nothing against anyone who is meticulous about wiping stuff down, that's just not who I am.

we do the same thing - call housekeeping that first night we arrive, or else first thing in the morning - then i remove EVERYTHING and leave it all in a bunch of separate piles on the floor (that way they don't go putting it all back on the beds....) - don't want to think about whatever is "on" those comforters....

Glad to know I'm not the only "clean freak". I won't feel so bad about asking for that clean comforter too - and a clean blanket!

Please-Let's not even go there!!!:rotfl: :confused3 :rotfl:

I really have to make it a point to not think about sleeping in a bed that so many other people have sleep in. I leave the bedspread on but only half way because we usually have the a/c cranked up. I just make sure the comforter and blanket don't go anywhere near our faces. GRoss.

I agree with you :thumbsup2

I never even thought of asking for a clean comforter and blanket. My family could care less but I never put these up near my face. I take 2 or 3 pillow cases and put them over the pillow I am going to sleep on, then make sure I put the pillow away so the mousekeepers don't touch it. I usually take my own pillow but decided it was easier to just put the pillow cases on. Sounds crazy, but I couldn't sleep without them. One night on a previous trip I forgot my pillow and/or cases and had to lay a towel over the hotel's pillow case - wasn't too comfortable but I slept better!

I'm usually too exhausted to even think about the cleanliness of the bedspreads at the hotel! But that's really gross  if they really don't change them! I will definately be asking for one when I get there in November!

I always thought they changed the blankets at least. i know during my last stay they changed the blankets mid way through our 9 night stay. i know because they went from blue-green to pink.

Amen to that! I honestly don't quite understand it...I guess I have enough to worry about in life rather than packing sanitizer for my vacation.

There was another thread on here where a woman was taking an extra suitcase so she could pack her own bedspreads to take with her....because she was worried about the cleanliness, and she didn't like the quilt pattern on the ones at her resort. And yes...she was serious!!!! (Insert cuckoo-bird smiley here!)

I'm kind of a germ-a-phobe who has to convince myself to relax and let it go when I'm on vacation. If I can't, I might as well stay home! And as for the bedspread or blanket touching my body, what about climbing into all those sweaty, nasty ride cars all day long?! Really, you can make yourself crazy if you worry about all that stuff.

Im not a germaphobe, but after seeing the reports on Dateline and those type of shows I do not have a problem bringing a can of lysol or tub of lysol wipes when we travel. The remote is one thing that really grosses me out as well as the telephone. I like to give them a good swipe with a wipe to make me feel better. When Dateline is finding feeces on the remote you have to wonder. :confused3

Or you could get an Owner's Locker, and just leave your own sheets/pillowcases/blankets there! That should satify just about anyone. And you could leave other stuff as well, saving you space in your luggage each trip. I do leave beach towels in mine, but not sheets. Perhaps that's something to think about for next time!

Ewwww. Now I'm going to be carrying and using wipes at hotels.

I've never thought about asking for new comforters or blankets either. I'll probably be driving my husband nuts asking for new ones every time we travel. LOL

I am also a germ-a-phobe. I bring a small bottle of sanitizing spray and spray the remote and phone. Saw too many shows of how people go to the bathroom in their hotel room, don't wash their hands and then pick up the remote or phone!!:scared:

I kind of grossed my hubby out on our last trip. We were going back to our hotel from a park and someone got off at the first stop in the hotel and I pointed to the seat and their were sweat marks from his butt!! I had to not think about all the rides and buses we were on and who was on them before us!!

So, we can ask mousekeeping for clean spread and blankets. I sure wish they'd do something about the sheets that don't stay on the beds. One size does not fit/stay on all beds. I've resorted to taking our own bottom sheet to put on the bed. Bright colors so it doesn't get stripped off. Beats getting wrapped up in the middle of the sheet in the wee hours.

This is not about Disney, but I do know a man who owns a ritzy hotel in our city and he admits that they don't wash their comforters. I can't imagine he's saving that much money by not washing the comforters (at least every once in a while????) I told him he was a cheapskate and he just laughed. :sad2:
