Comfortable Sofa?

Hi, cruising next year on Disney Magic, have read a few reviews about 1 bedroom suite's double sofa's not being the most comfortable to sleep on. We are a party of 4 so we will be using the sofa for the entire cruise. Are they really that uncomfortable? I hope not, for the money your paying. Booked room # 8534. Does anybody agree with the reviews about the sofa's. Thanks

Well, they're your standard pull out double sofa. Typically it's a pretty thin mattress. I believe that I've read where someone asked for an egg crate topper to pad it out a little. Don't know if that's still an option.

Thanks for the info, can you ask for an additional mattress to double the size.

You mean an additional mattress to put on top? Maybe. Couldn't hurt to ask. But, it would need to be removed every day and put back on every night. I don't think the sofa will close up with a double thick mattress on it.

You would think for the money your paying for a 1 bedroom suite Disney would do a better job.

Well, I doubt that they designed the sofa bed. It's basically a "standard issue" sofa bed.
I think the point is they shouldn't use sofa beds at all, if they aren't decent quality like the rest of the beds. Why couldn't they have a double murphy bed instead? Or a pullman with a bunk like the rest of the rooms? I get that maybe the pullmans aren't considered high-end enough, but neither is a pull-out couch without a lot of extra padding.

I think the rooms that have the double sofa (no pull down bunk) may have stuff in the ceiling that precludes putting that bed in there. And a double Murphy bed - but no sofa? Probably not.

It could be a double that comes down over top of the sofa, like a pullman, but longer. Or a sofa with a bed under the sofa (like a day be with a trundle) that meets up with the first mattress, thus making it a double.

The pull down (double) Murphy could cause issues. I've got a picture of a room with the double sofa bed, and there's a pull down bunk over it. If that pull down was a double bed size, it could be an issue with walking around the room (possibly bumping heads). I think DCL did the double sofa bed so there were options for 5 in a room, and those rooms just don't have the space for the typical Murphy bed (next to the window).

Actually, and looks may be deceiving, but the way that sofabed is made up makes it look like the mattress is a good thickness.

On the Magic, the sofa a bed pulls out like any other sofa bed. My DH slept on the sofa bed last October and had no complaints. He said it was thick enough for him (and he has meat on him) and doesn't recall being uncomfortable.

Well, it doesn't seem much bigger than the child's foot that's on top. And some of that thickness is the blanket. They use those blankets that the pile stands straight up.

Most sofa beds on the ship are the single, fold down back (pullman style) beds (often with a fold down bunk bed above). The mattress on that bed is the standard twin mattress.

On the Magic class, there are some rooms (mostly the cat 8s) that have a double pull out sofa (much like the kind that people have at home). Like the one in the picture I posted. That mattress can be fairly thin.

What kind of room is that pictured?

Great room! Yes, horrible mattress. There is a bar right through the middle of it which hits right about where your hip would be. We asked for an egg crate topper to be placed on top of the mattress, but it still wasn't great. My 3 and 6 year old shared it and it seemed ok for them. But, it still made taking a quick nap on it for me feel like "princess and the pea".
Hope this helps! Enjoy your cruise!

The OP asked about the sofa bed in the one bedroom on Magic. My experience is with the sofa bed in the two bedroom which cannot be that much more different judging by pictures and videos I've seen.

Thanks to everybody, I'm getting the impression that the sofa bed is not the most comfortable. Which I hope is not the case, it would put a damper on the experience. When our cruise in Nov 2018 comes along will check it out.
