Comfort suites, Atlantis

I am not sure if this is the proper forum-I am looking to book a room at the Comfort Inn Suites in Nassau to obtain passes to Atlantis, but I noticed there are a lot of "extra" charges for the room. Does anyone know if you are required to pay them if you do not actually stay in the room? And can anyone tell me what they have paid in total for all the extras (energy charge, housekeeping, etc)

If you're booking it on the Comfort Suites site, they're all figured into the price. The site is confusing as all get out, so I called the hotel, and the lady on the phone sounded really frustrated with getting that question all the time. But she said what you saw on the site was the full price, and the extras were already included. And in fact, that is the way it worked; we paid nothing else over and above the final price.

Now, whether you can get them to refund the "housekeeping" charge if you don't use the room I don't know. I strongly doubt it, because let's face it, it's not actually a "housekeeping" charge, it's a random extra fee just like "facility charges" and "resort fees." It's just a way of advertising an artificially low price, then revealing the real price later when you check out.

I'm booked at the Comfort Suites Paradise Island for atrip in June using points (still not sure if we have to pay the extra fees if we booked on points or not) but I just copied this from the Choice hotels website:

"Must have one adult 21 years or older in each room. Energy surcharge: 15.95 per person per night. Housekeeping gratuities: 5.00 per person per night These are additional charges not included in nightly estimated total and must be paid directly at the hotel. Groups are for Five or more rooms and require a 2nt stay. For groups please contact 1-800-417-6738 Ext 24. Persons 16 and older are charged as adults. 3rd/4th person charged 40.00 per night + tax and service charges."

I agree, that statement seems to say that you'll be charged more when you get there. I was assured that was not the case, and in fact it was not the case. I checked my credit card statement carefully after the trip. We were charged exactly the total shown on the Comfort Suites web site. Now, that total was much higher than the rate shown when you first look up the hotel, which I assume is because they've already added the extra person fees, "housekeeping" fees, "energy surcharge" (whatever that is), etc. by the time you get to the grand total page.

I encourage you to call and ask. That's what I did, and they told me the charges were already included. I came prepared to pay just in case, but in fact everything was as they said.

Edit: sorry, just realized you have a points booking. They might very well charge the extras when booking on points. I encourage you to call. It's an international call, but not typically long or expensive, and English is the native language.

This is how it reads on my reservation coming up for next week:

Mind you, this is for two rooms for 6 nights. My assumption is that the "Estimated taxes and other charges" includes ALL fees. Which equates to $71.15 per night per room which is almost 50% taxes and fees per night! Even with the crazy fees and taxes it's a lot cheaper than an Atlantis hotel and since we're staying there is a great deal and includes more perks than Atlantis does i.e. free breakfast, free wifi and a refrigerator.

thanks...I actually booked our room on a regular reservation for the time being since I can't book our points reservation until I am within 100 days, so I just checked my existing reservation, and the fees are included on the total amount due (not reflected on the per night charge as seen on the website though) I did a dummy reservation today using points and it didn't indicate on the email that there would be any additional fees/taxes due as the cash reservation showed. There was that disclaimer that I posted upthread though on both emails...it's just so vague....

I've read just a couple posts online about people using points and having no additional fees added so there's hope!

will try calling the hotel directly also and see what they say, thanks for the suggestion!

OP...is this for a day while on a cruise stop? I think theres info on cruise critic about booking comfort suites for atlantis access. Have you looked over there yet? Or on the cruise forum here?

Yes, it will be for a cruise stop. I am just getting familiar with cruise critic.

I've been looking into this as well. I noticed that check in is at 3pm. Since the boat docks at 9:30 can you show up in the morning and get your day pass?

We just used points to book a room at comfort suites to get Atlantis passes during a cruise this past Nov. Couldn't have been easier. We were not charged any other fees on top of the points. It was not a problem to get the passes as soon as we "checked in" even though the the room was not ready. Just be aware that all members of your party must be present at check in at the comfort suites even though that's not where you get the actual passes. The check in area was under construction at the time so we lest the rest of our party in the lobby till we went through a maze of halls to the new check in desk, only to be told we had to go back and get everyone else. Not a huge deal, but time consuming. At check in, you receive vouchers, then have to go to another desk in Atlantis for the actual passes. We were only in Nassau 9:00-500, and had to leave Atlantis by 3:30 in order to get back in time, so a lot of time was eaten up transferring from the dock to comfort suites, to Atlantis desk, and back. I wouldn't think twice about doing it again on points, but would never pay for a room or day passes with such a short time in dock. My advice to you is to be ready to disembark as soon as you dock, and research where to go in the comfort suites and Atlantis for the passes, as well as which part of the resort itself you want to position yourself in. It is a huge place. Enjoy!

How many points is it to stay at Comfort Suites Nassau? I was looking at the website and couldn't find Nassau (Bahamas) as a place where points could even be used, but apparently they can....

if you search Paradise Island on the Choice Hotel website you will find the Comfort Suites...it's 35,000 points per night
