I am so bored right now. I have first period planning so I was sitting in my room grading papers when an announcement came on to keep all kids in the class until further notice. I wasn't concerned. This happens about once a week; either there's a problem with the bathroom (we're in long trailor until we move into our new building next year and the toilets here frequently overflow) or there's a problem with a fight or a kid out of control. So I was sitting in my room when one of the security guards comes to my door and tells me that he's closing my door and that I can't leave room until I'm told to. I can hear them outside checking lockers but I have no idea what's going on. So, I'm sitting here dising until further notice.

I'll keep you company  Tell me more about the security gaurds ;)

I've got nothing better to do right now - I can keep you company. Have you found out yet what the commotion is all about? Maybe they will dismiss everyone early. That would be nice, right?

I'll keep you company - I have been in work for about 1/2 hour and I am so bored. I run out of things to look at on the computer. I am one of those people that would rather be very busy in work instead of bored.

I have about an hours worth of work today and 7 hours of doing nothing!

I'll keep you company too, have you found out what happened yet?

Well, we're still in lockdown. Two kids got taken out by the police. They were caught with a gun and some razers. Now they're taking each kid out of class one by one and making them dump out their bookbags, take off their shoes and empty their lockers so that they can wand everything. It's halfway through 2nd period and they've done two classes. I think I'll be sitting here for a long time.

No, nothing happened to me. I got called out of the room for a second to cover a class while the teacher went to the office to talk to a parent. I was promptly sent back to my room and told to stay there.

Can I just say we want to hear more about the security guards!

I have an image in my head, if you have ever read Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum novels you will know what im thinking when I say Ranger! Woo hoo!

Can I also say what is with our schools today? No one is safe anywhere anymore! Thoughts are with you, prayer and PD, too!

But like I said before...Ranger.

WHA?! How old are these kids bringing a gun to school!? OMG! Seriously, when I was in school the thought NEVER crossed my mind to bring a GUN to school. That makes me think that only reason someone would do that is to cause harm to someone! That is crazy AND sad! :sad2:

I'll keep you company! I have a little work to do but not too much. I spread it around my day!

I am so excited today for some reason! I can't wait until Christmas. We are going home, MA, for Christmas and just got our tickets. I am so excited. I'll be totally showing by then and will be babied by my parents and ohh and ahh'd over by DH's family. I am kind of looking forward to that. I can't wait to come home in January because then we can really start looking at buying baby furniture and decorating the nursery!

Today, so far, is a good day!

Any updates on the commotion?

It is scary. I've only taught in inner city schools so it's not like it's the first time that the police have been called. It is the first time that a gun was actually found on school property. I'm sure other kids have brought them since we do have a huge gang problem but I think it's the fact that they actually found one that forces you to wake up. I can't wait until we get into our new building. The high school is in there now until their building is done. Our new building has built in metal detectors and surveillence cameras. The trailer that we're in has no security. We have two guards and that's it.

We have two security guards. Neither are armed. One is about 80 and does nothing but scream at the kids all day. The other is alright but I still wouldn't trust him to protect me. I guess I forgot to mention that these are eighth graders. We only have one grade in our building. Six years ago our old building was condemned the week that school was supposed to start. Everyone was shuffled around the district. Eventually, the seventh graders were put back into the elementary buildings and the eighth graders got this lovely trailer where the doors don't lock and the heat rarely works.

Yeah, school security guards tend to be just there as a presence. "Stop, or I'll throw my keys!"

hmmmm...the school by me has actual police officers in the building....maybe I should be a little scared......

How scary...8th graders carrying guns. That is so wrong. I never had to worry about this kind of stuff when I went to school. Of course I live down the street from Columbine HS and about 15 minutes away from Bailey so our schools are so paranoid right now. Thankfully they caught the kids.

Unfortunatly the police in our city had a major lay off a few years ago. There are now only three police officers on duty at any time. It's a strange city. I'm trying not to give too much away so that I don't get in trouble but it's a small city (about one square mile) but it is almost completely surrounded by a major city. In this one square mile we have about 6,000 kids and numerous gangs.

I finally got out of the room for another second. They found another gun when they were checking the kids. The amout of drugs found at this point is amazing. The bell just rang for 3rd period. It looks like it might be time for lunch before this is over.

I just want to know where they are getting all these guns.....
