Comcast has the worst service ever

Comcast has done it again. The TV signal totally went out at noon with no expectation of being back up anytime soon. My university's baseball team is playing for the championship in the College World Series tonight. An event with huge local interest and they can't get their signal to work! Of course last year we had no signal when they played in their first round game of the CWS. Comcast must have something against baseball. A few years back when my husband's favorite pro team was in the World Series we were without a cable signal for two of those games.

We have no option to this horrible poor excuse for a company.

I've heard this same problem being discussed when I've been out and about lately. Just heard of 3 people at a grad party this weekend, as well as a good friend of mine who was steaming mad a few weeks back about their lack of service -- all of whom have left Comcast within the past month. MIL was complaining bitterly on Father's Day, except they are stuck for several months because they just started a year-long deal with Comcast. It will be interesting to see if we start hearing their market share has gone down. I left them about 20 years ago & will never do business with them again.

Comcast also could not offer decent signal strength on Sunday night when my husband tried to watch the US Open. He tried to watch golf thru a heavily pixelated screen and finally gave up. Of course picture quality always improves between 1am and 6am but Comcast would like to assure you that heavy volume does not affect the strength of their signal.

There is always satellite and/or your phone company for cable TV...

Guess we are lucky..there is no Comcast service in our area..lol..I hate bad customer service, especially when it comes to my tv!

For some of us when you rent you have limited options, it's either Comcast or now we can do tds. If we want Dish/direct it's like jumping through hoops to be able to have it plus a deposit.

Check your laws. The only thing that would prevent a renter from having Dish/Direct is not having a way to see the southern sky. A landlord can not prevent you from putting up a dish if it's property that YOU rent, as long as you don't do damage to the structure. If you have a balcony facing the "correct way", they can't keep you from putting a 5 gallon bucket filled w/cement and a pole on your balcony and the dish mounts to that.

We can have it but she has to approve it and there's 300 deposit for it. It's to much of a hassle to deal with it.

Actually that's illegal.

From https://www.fcc.gov/guides/installing-consumer-owned-antennas-and-satellite-dishes
For example, in most cases, requirements to get approval before installing an antenna are prohibited.

The link also has instructions on what to do if you want to fight the landlord.

NOTE: I'm not saying you should or have to do this, but that you have this option if you'd like to exercise it.

Our neighborhood is one of those written off by ATT for UVerse. We actually have fiber to the curb but it was put in by BellSouth and ATT (which is actually the old Southwest Bell) does not support the fiber structures built by BellSouth.

I think we have discussed this before but our neighborhood covenants do not allow dishes. I know there are laws where we could challenge that but I choose to live in this neighborhood because of the strict covenants so I don't want to challenge. We have to have approval for any exterior change to our house. We can't even put screens in our front windows. It is a look and a style that not everyone would like but we do.

I'm with you! I only have Comcast for internet, and their service stinks. They can never troubleshoot on the phone - after about 5 minutes of trying the obvious stuff, they schedule a technician for several days later. Almost inevitably, it starts working again the next day. My service slow to a crawl most weekends, too. I have a theory that someone up the street has a serious gaming machine, and they are grabbing all of the bandwidth.

My only other option is satellite internet, but those speeds aren't appealing. I do have Dish Network for TV with no problems at all. I would have switched to Comcast for TV long ago because it would save me a good bit of money, but I refuse to switch while I get horrible internet service.

That's funny, we are opposites because I have Comcast TV and a very slow ATT DSL for Internet. I refuse to switch to Comcast for a higher internet speed because their TV signal is so horrible.

I also think their TV signal deteriorates due to people hogging the bandwidth for gaming. The signal is horrible on nights and weekends when kids are out of school. And you can forget watching on snow days when everyone is snowed in. They come out for service calls in the middle of the day and say the signal strength is OK.

The TV signal should be independent of the internet signal. In fact, the TV signal should be the same regardless of how many people are on. The signal strength is dependent on how many times the signal is split, regardless of whether there's anything at the end of the split.

I vaguely remember the past conversation... is OTA an option for you? I understand exterior looks are important to you, but you may be able to put an antenna inside an attic (that's what I have-- in addition to the Dish on the back of the house).

I really am curious as to why the signal gets so bad on weekends and evenings. If signals aren't affected by Internet use then can they be affected by more TVs being used by my neighbors? I thought cable was a shared pipe so that more people using it would decrease its strength.
