Call back. When I was laid off last year, I called and got nowhere. I called back a couple of days later and got a REALLY helpful rep who got me an amazing savings on regular cable.
Basic Service - $8.40
Basic Digital Convrtr Pkg - $1.35
Fee's/Taxes - $0.40
I have a suspicion that perhaps I'm not suppossed to be getting the channels I do, but I'm not about to tell them.
HOWEVER, I get somewhere between 50-100 tv channels (all local, Disney, Discovery, History, Animal Planet, Cartoon Network, yada, yada, yada) and about 30 or so digital music channels.
I had this along with 2nd level internet service (they have about 4 or 5 speed levels of internet in my area, but second level is pretty fast and works well - I have never had a problem.) I am paying 64.95 a month. But now, all the channels have one by one been screened out and I get limited basic (which is what I have paid for all along) which is just the local channels. For the internet speed part, it is 64.95 total whether I choose to have the basic channels or not. What I miss is my HGTV and the music channels for my kitchen tv when I am in there working. But - for the cost to upgrade and pay extra per month, I can buy a lot of music!
I have Verizon for home phone - almost gave it up completely, but dropped a line and gave up the call forwarding, voice mail etc and now for about $100 a month I have basic comcast cable and upgraded internet and a decent landline. The combo works. (We use netflix and redbox for movies when needed and stream through the Wii.)
In my area, Fios is being offered at introductory for $99 for one year. I don't think it's a deal as the net would be much slower - is much slower then what I have with Comcast for the price. If I upgrade TV it will be by keeping what I have and checking out Direct in addition. The packages are not everything. I am lucky in that I am in an area with many services. It's all still wayyy overpriced in my opinion.
