Comcast Announces Intent to Buy Time Warner Cable

I beg to differ, there are many areas where you have more then 1 cable service available, Comcast, TW, local , charter etc. Not to mention if Comcast ends up controlling all or most of the cable service, it could be a monopoly and prices could go though the roof. However your point on anti trust is well taken! Time will tell what happens! AKK

Mso's might operate in the same state but they do not compete for the same customer. They service different houses passed.Verizon, AT&T, Direct Tv are not MSO so they do over lap.

However as someone else noted net neutrality will be an issue down the line. Comcast agreed to abide by net neutrality when it bought NBC through 2018 so it won't have an effect right now. FCC might even make them prolong it as part of the agreement I t eventually they will have a HUGE negotiating advantage being so large. That might be the reason they would get denied

"Utilities" are regulated on a state basis... So it's hard to apply an absolute. It also seems to be based on the agreements cut by specifically to each company when they set up.

There are geographic arrangements here in jersey... Where Comcast and cablevisiob had local rule...
But then Verizon paid of the pols enough to muscle in on both's territories. That could be due to phone services...but the reality it was cable service and Internet (who even has a phone)

I used to live in a city (circa 2000) where we could pick between Comcast and time Warner...the limitation was only how far each company had bothered to run their lines for service...
Orlando, Fl

So...lockedoutlogic...judging by your earlier posts it seems that you think Comcast likely will buy much more land to expand the Universal Resort?

I think "think" is too strong of a word...
I think the larger they get...the greater the possibility...
But that would depend on about 1000 factors

Well...if they end up buying substantial amounts of property (enough to build another park and several more hotels) would Disney *finally* start to worry? In your opinion, of course.

If Comcast moves Further Into the production/acquisition of "content", they see real expansion in parks and retail sales, and they get bigtime into the "next" generation of delivery systems?

Then yes...I could see them buying property/cutting deals with the city, county, state to expand.
I'm in Orlando alot but seldom drive around Kirkman...I can't remember the potential for purchase/build in the area. It's fairly tight.

I so remember about ten years ago that they had plans for two onsite large scale hotels and a water park...we now have the two hotels. But that was two owners ago...
in that plan parks were not a big deal (this being fairly recent after IOA and citywalk)

Comcast has come to play at the parks...but they don't have the size advantage.

The single greatest move that the Disney brothers ever did - one can argue - was the swamp gobble in Florida in 1964-65.
It's been stated many times over...but I still think it's understated.

That is "real estate" in it's truest sense...it's worth tens of billions of dollars in potential now.
And it was a semi-toxic waste
Dump filled with snakes and gators... Who'd a thunk?

Too bad america doesn't do things like this anymore...

Remember: fundamentally Comcast is scared without poo poo that there business model will crumble with the end of cable and expansion of wireless point to point telecom. It is inevitable. But unlike Eastman Kodak...they seem to have tried to get ahead of the game instead of steaming towards the iceberg.

EDIT:
On second thought...that would incredibly tough to do...on the satellite there is very little room for expansion...unless they get a relocation of dr Phillips high and buy orange tree country club.
A second site development would be unlikely

Buying the country club would certainly be quite doable especially one of that size and caliber. Also, since it's a country club it wouldn't take a lot of work to use that land for expansions of Universal. I'm sure the government agencies involved will be quite willing to work with them on relocating Dr. Phillips so they could get more tax revenue!

Do you know what they building that looks like a school with the athletic field is?

Must concur. I thought nothing could be as bad as Verizon customer service...until we switched to Comcast. Customer service is great! It needs to be since we've had to have them out 4 times since we switched last year and had to call about once a month for an issue. Multiple equipment failures, random resets, WiFi dropping for no reason. Saturday we get switched back to Verizon.

Long time comcast customer only because there's nothing else available. "Upgraded" to xfinity1 platform & nothing but problems. My next service call is next Saturday because the secondary box in my bedroom isn't working. I've had them out previously because the main box wasn't working. Had the new platform for less than a year. Screen freezes, volume fades, guide issues, etc. seriously thinking of going with Hulu or something similar.

Having dealt with Comcast I feel it is only a matter of time before their lack of customer service extends to their parks.

There are hundreds of houses throughout the country club. It isn't just a golf course. These houses are worth north of $275k. Do you think they'd be able to get these people to sell these houses to them, then bulldoze them, do site work including removing all of the residential utility lines/pipes, and then build a multi-billion dollar project on top of that?

That building is Dr. Phillips High School. I'm not sure paying to build a new school that size to get more tax revenue would be a net gain for the area. That's probably a $150M+ project.

If there was another option here, l would definitely make the switch. I cancelled my home phone because after 4 service calls within 3 weeks, they still couldn't get my phone lines to work. Having to deal with their customer service is a horrible experience.
