The only way we were able to get a reservation for 5 of us at Cinderella's Royal Table was to book one reservation for 4 and another at the same time for 1. (Since I am the grandparent, I really don't mind sitting at a different table.) Wondering why we could book two reservations this way but not a single reservation for 5? AND, if we all are there together for a reservation at the same time and ask to sit together, might they do that for us?

You're able to book a 4 and a 1 because they have table sizes at your ADR time to accommodate that, probably a 4 top and a 2 top. They apparently do not have a table size (probably would require a 6 top) to accommodate a party of 5 at that time, as other diners already have them reserved.

They MAY be able to accommodate you and seat you all together when you arrive, and they MAY NOT. No way to know until you get there.
