We are DVC members with 160 points at OKW. My son and DIL have decided to buy 150 points at BCV. They said the guide kept talking about all the advantages of being able to combine points. I don’t get how that works. If they are using their points at the 11 month mark, wouldn’t we/they have to wait until the 7 month mark to book with our points? Is the guide referring to combing at 7 months Or am I missing a perk?

The guide was misleading.

To "combine" one of you would have to transfer to the other, and points could not be used together until 7 months.

You could each schedule a segment for a split stay at your respective home resorts at 11 months, or book segments at 7 months separately, without a transfer.

I hope they weren't buying BCV direct.

Points can not be combined for different resorts until 7 months, So, it was probably what they were referring to when discussing,

However, with two memberships, someone would have to transfer if you want it in a single reservation.

If not, then you book some nights and they book the other...you then ask MS to link them and note traveling with on each.

We did not transfer when we and a cousin booked a GV at Aulani for a week. At 7 months we did a three way phone call, and I booked my share, then she booked hers. We were told we would not have to move, but we would have to check in and get new keys. Well, they delivered the keys to us the night before her reservation began. It was seamless!

I would say the easiest thing to do would be to each separately book the rooms you need using your respective accounts. If you are doing a split stay between OKW and BCV, you can both just book the nights you want at your respective resorts at 11 months. Otherwise, if you're staying, say, at OKW the entire duration, you book your nights at 11 months, then wait for 7 months to book the remainder of the stay. Since your son's points are BCV home resort, even if you transfer his points to your account, they would still be BCV points, so you'd only be able to book there at 11 months.

No, they toured Rivera with a guide but went home and researched BCV and looked into resale.
