Combining points and hotel stay at Aulani

We are a bit late to the game and trying to stay at Aulani for Thanksgiving week. We tried to rent points to stay in a villa but it is sold out for some of the days. However, when I go to the regular Disney site I can reserve it there (at twice the cost). Is there any way to reserve the days that are sold out through the regular Disney path and rent points for the other days? Would it be the same room if we reserved the same class? Are the dvc rooms on different floors?

pretty sure that those are two different pathways and will as a result be handled differently. Being Thanksgiving week, I doubt that you'd be able to keep your room. If still available, you would rent the points for the DVC room and in a separate reservation pay cash for the remaining days. If that cash room was of the same type as the rented points room you might be able to convince someone to keep you in the same room but I would not count on it.

I recently rented Wyndham points for a stay in Washington DC and the service that I used had to make the reservation with two different sets of points resulting in two different reservations. As a result, we had two different rooms. Luckily we were nice to the right manager and we were able to stay in the same room for the entire stay. (Didn't hurt that the second room was an upgraded room and we were able to give it up to stay in a cheaper room)
