Combining DVC Points from Resale

Just bought into DVC last week (BLT), very excited about it! Question for those of you that have had it for a while and have added to your original purchase. Here's the scenario:

We have X number of points. If at some point in the future, we decide we'd like to add more points to our interest, do we have to buy through DVC, or can we buy on the resale market? If we buy on the resale market, can those be combined with our original purchase and used for a single vacation, or will they be considered "separate?"

If they are the same use year, they can be combined nto a single membership. However, you would not be able to use the resale points for stays outside the DVC resorts or RCI/II exchanges. Exchanges to the Disney Collection, Cruises, Adventures by Disney and so on would not be allowed with the resale points.

historically, if your resale was the same UY month and titled the same as your first contract, DVC would combine them under one membership number so that the 2 contracts would operate seamlessly together. (naturally, you could still will or sell the contracts separately.)

i assume that is still the case but with the recent changes to resale perks (that chuck mentioned) i suppose it could change eventually.

(also, just to be clear, if you buy in at a different home resort - understand that points from the 2 contracts cannot be combined until the 7 month mark. so if you own 200 BLT pts and buy a 50 pt BCV resale, you can still only book BLT with pts from the BLT contract at 11 months out and the same with BCV.)

In a nutshell as said above, if the points are the same UY and resort, you will be able to use them seamlessly together for DVC stays. If they are different resorts or UY's, it will be much complicated, because the banking/borrowing windows as well as home resort privileges will be different between the contracts.

As PP mentioned, the resale will not be able to exchange out as the direct is.
