My BIL and SIL are going to Disney in Sept. , they are possibly interested in joining DVC in the near future. If they were to buy points at SSR (our points are at BCV) could we ever combine points to get a GV somewhere?

Yes you can, but you will have to wait for the 7 month window to book it when you make the reservation with 2 different home resorts.

If you both had the same home resort..........you could have booked it at the 11 month window.

Yep we do it all the time and just like ncligs said...11 months if both are using points at the same home resort. It sure does make those points go a LOT further.

We combine ours with our best friend!!!

But you certainly can't plan on a GV at seven months. There will be exceptions, we have heard it happen, but you certainly can't expect to get a GV at seven months.

I'm assuming you own a different resort thatn SSR. If that's the case, you be doomed to the 7 month window for this type of reservation. You could bank and borrow to get a GV if you had enough points in one contract. You could schedule part of the time at the home resort and change it over at 7 months if available. What you cannot do is get the 11 month window just because you want to use points combined from two members/contracts.

Thanks for the replies, it is funny how our sales person never mention how hard it will be to get a grand villa at the 7 month window. We own at BCV (no GV). Has anyone here ever been able to get a GV at BWV or OKW at the 7 month window?

You won't know until you call MS but here are the breakdowns of GV's at the DVC resorts below........

OKW-27 GV's

BWV's-7 GV's

HH-5 GV's

VB-6 Beach Cottages

Chances are slim if you need one during a holiday week or the 1st 2 weeks of December. You might want to try to trade points with someone that has the 11 month window at OKW or BWV's.

If combining your points is something you think you might do more than once, why don't you see if BIL and SIL can still get points at BCV (you won't know unless you talk to a guide) or if they can try to pick up a resale!

Speaking of combining points for reservations...when we bought in we were assured by our guide that if we ever wanted to split a reservation with my parents that we would be able to use half of our points and half theirs (without the need to transfer), but the first (and only) time we attempted to do this MS said we couldn't.

Simple example: 5 nights in an OKW 2br during summer 150 pts. (30 per night for 5 nights) We wanted them to take 75 from my account and 75 from my parents. MS said we had to "split" it along full nights so the best they could do is a 90/60 split of points. Is this correct? Not a big deal, just wondering, scince I probably asked 6 or 7 times before we bought and was told; "Absolutley, any way you want to split up the reservation and points is fine."

This may change to 11/10 months right? That may help in the GV situation, OR you could possibly trade 150 SSR and 150 BCV to someone at OKW for 300 OKW and reserve at 11 months, or trade 2 years (300) of BCV or SSR (assuming you had 150) to someone at OKW. Another thing is down the road I'm sure someone at SSR would trade with you for BCV points and you could then combine and get a GV at SSR. There are also OKW points for rent (and soon will be SSR for rent)-then reserve at 11 months and in return rent your points. Good Luck.

It could change but unlikely. Besides 10 months would be little better than 7 for the GV, especially at BWV. It will be interesting to see how hard the GV at SSR will be. My guess is they will be fairly easy with the costs as they are.

We have had reports of success, really, not many. For most of the time from Sept thru Dec you have to call day by day to reserve a GV. I woke up late one morning and called at 10:00 am for an october reservation and it was too late. I had only begun a few days earlier, I was reserving 12 nights day by day. I canceled the first two days and started the reservation again the next week.

You may get lucky, but you certainly can not count on getting an OKW GV at seven months. Really, if you miss one day right at 9:00 exactly at eleven months, you could be out of luck. Since there are so many less GVs at BWV, the off seasons are no easier.

SSR may turn out to be easier, the GVs are smaller, the points much higher and there are going to be as many as at OKW....actually fewer per member since there will be more rooms total. We will have to wait and see.

By the way, I am not surprised that the guide never mentioned the availibility issue, they lie to people all the time about the 7-11 month windows being meaningless.

Since they no longer have the need to use WDW DVC resorts to sell their poorly selling off site resorts, there is no reason for them to change it. It is very unlikely that they will.

And Dean is completely right, that change would be meaningless, if it changed it from 7-11 to 10 months 29 days and 23 hours - 11, it might affect GV availability, but 10-11 aint going to make a difference.

Wow, thanks for all of the info. I think this makes our decision when we add on easier. We were thinking WLV, but we would then have points at BCV and WLV with no GV at either. So our add ons will have to be at OKW, BWV, or SSR in the future.
