Can you use points from two separate accounts for one vacation. I.E. some from our account combined with our sons for a stay if both do not have enough points separate for the vacation room and length of stay wanted??...smjj

You may use points from different accounts for different nights and then link the reservations. The only way to use points from different accounts for a single night would be by transferring points from one account to another.

Sent from my iPad using DISBoards App, please excuse any typos.

You could do this one of two ways:
1. Transfer points from one account to the other, then make the reservation using the membership that has all the points. Transfered points will retain original home resort and UY.
2. Make two reservations (one under each membership) and have MS link them.

Point of clarification, please:

I seem to recall having read that MS wasn't as strict on the once per year transfer rule with members transferring between their own accounts. It was sort of a tangent on another thread and I never saw a firm answer. I know what the letter of the law is. I want to know what the spirit of the law is.

Once and for all.

True or false? Transfers between acounts belonging to the same member are not limited to one transfer per year.

I just used my 2 memberships for 1 vacation and had MS link the reservations. It was painless. Even when I called to add a person to my reservation, it seemed effortless.

This appears to be the way MS is currently operating, (that is, members with more than one membership ARE being permitted more than one transfer per UY) but it is in no way guaranteed. The policy could be changed at any time.

We do this often and have always been told that we used our once a year transfer.

In this case it appears the points are from two different members (OP's membership and his son's membership) so any transfer would use the once-per-Use Year transfer for both memberships.

For years, my understanding was that any transfer (member to another member, or member to another account of the same member) would use the transfer option for that Use Year. This summer, after I had already made a transfer from our account to another member I called about using points from 2 HH accounts to make a reservation at 11 months. I was expecting to need to borrow points in order to make the reservation. The MS rep suggested that he could transfer points from one of our HH account to the other HH account in order to make the entire reservation without needing to borrow. I challenged that from a policy standpoint and was told that internal transfers for members with multiple memberships were allowed without affecting the transfer policy. So, he made the transfer and then made the reservation for next summer without the need to borrow points from either Use Year. We ended up with 6 points in one account and none in the other. He even stated that if I wanted to transfer those 6 points to the other account, I could still do that too.

YMMV. :)

But have you been denied when needed later? They handle this on a case by case basis and historically they allow flexibility when truly needed. Things like for cruises or for that last night when you don't have enough points.

We've only needed the one transfer each year. So we haven't tried multiples.

Pixie dust is a wonderful thing, but disney does have tendency to pick and choose which rules they decide to enforce. Have read many instances here of people being disappointed after reading how others received special treatment and they didn't in similar situation.

That said, I purchased points from MS to complete a reservation at one of my WDW home resorts then needed to cancel it and figured i was out the points. A few months later I booked a reservation at DL within same UY's points. I was surprised to be able to use the purchased points that I thought would be linked to the original resort. OT but this thread made me wonder what if this is standard practice?

My experience, like a number things with DVC, is that being able to do more than one transfer between your own accounts in one use year simply depends on the MS rep you reach on the phone.

We combined points with another member last year to book a GV for our combined families. It worked great. We did a conference call where I called in and booked the first half and they conferenced her in and spoke to her separately to book the other half and then linked the ressies. Worked like a charm and no one had to do any transferring in or out.
