We have noticed that air prices from Dayton Ohio have increased a lot. I want to try to get a good fare out of Columbus for MLKjr weekend. Has anyone here gotten a good price out of Columbus. It's a 90 minute ride from our house, but we're willing to try it.

Bobbi :)

It appears right now that prices out of Columbus are out of sight. We're trying to find airfare from CMH to MCO for President's Day weekend and the cheapest right now is Delta for $449 not including taxes and fees! There is no way we can or will pay that much. We have friends trying to find air for the week between Christmas and New Year's and they can't find anything affordable either.

What dates are you needing and what time are you wanting to go there, come home? I am VERY good at finding good deals (usually). I need to become a travel agent :)
ps...i also live in dayton, ohio!

With a Southwest ding we flew from CMH to MCO for $87 RT, NS including taxes and fees! It was over spring break 2006.
Make sure to sign up for DING.

My family's flying CMH to MCO on Thanksgiving Day. I started following air rates in June. I couldn't find anything less than $300 per person.

In August my hubby asked why I kept staying up late on the internet and I told him that's when the prices drop. That night I found our tickets for $128.37 each! With tax they are still only $176.50. :rotfl: Of course I jumped on them!

3 tickets on NWA flying 11/23 $529.50 total!! And we arrive at a halfway decent time, 4:29pm...still time to visit a park.

I checked 2 days later and they were up to over $944 total...and that's where they've stayed.

Last time we flew I waited until 60 days before we were leaving (again, Thanksgiving Day) and got a great rate through Hotwire. I was going to wait again this year but really don't think I can do better than $176 each.

I've read you can find the best rates late Tuesday night/ early Wednesday morning. I found mine late Tuesday. Worst day to search is Friday. Hotwire says airlines release their reduced rates 60 days before departure. I don't know if that's only if you're going through Hotwire though.

I used Sidestep.com and BookingBuddy.com to help in my search.

Good luck with your search. Bargains DO pop up every once-in-a-while. (I was "anal" and checked all the time.) And if you do find a good price, grab it, as it may be gone in a couple of hours.

It's been frustrating for us to see how high airfare out of CMH has gotten.
We find Southwest is the most affordable with a couple of non-stop flights each day. We now know about Dings and are on the lookout for Jan.!
Otherwise, we may end up driving (ugh!) which is not my idea of the way to start and end what is supposed to be a vacation! I'm not in the know of how to search for great airfare deals, so if anyone has any tips, I would SOOO appreciate it! Thanks!

Thanks for all answers. Thanks for the tip about Tuesday/Wednesday prices. We just want to go for the weekend, Friday January 12 to Monday the 15th. It's not totally a WDW trip, and DH has taken the Friday off, so travel times can be anytime in the day. I don't work on Fridays.

DH has just told me that direct flights on AirTran (I've not flown them before) out of DAY are just over $225pp with taxes and we may do that. The direct flights are a big plus!

I really would love to get a Ding someday.

I forgot to add: On SideStep go clear to the right and download the toolbar, that way you can compare several airline prices quickly.

I live in Cincinnati, but we never fly out of CVG, always DAY or CMH. I prefer flying out of Dayton on AirTran because of the early morning flight on the way down and the evening flight on the way there. It feels like getting 2 extra days! I think $225 on AirTran from Dayton sounds pretty good. We will be in Disney Christmas/New Year's and I was having a horrible time finding flights. They were at least $500 per person. I waited until the day Southwest extended their fares for our dates and booked n/s from Columbus for $200/person. Watch Southwest and AirTran both very closely, I think you will find somehing for those dates. Good luck!

Right now (11:46 Sunday 9/3) Airtran is $414.80 total for two people, flying out of DAY! Flight will get you to MCO early, 9:42am, so you can enjoy the parks. There's a non-stop flight home too. Non-stop flights cost less because every stop adds tax to your price. (Some kind of "security fee/ tax.)

There's quite a few flight times to choose from for the same price.

I am looking for rates for President's Day weekend also. I have been checking from CMH as well as DAY. CMH is about 2 hour drive and DAY about 45 min. I have also checked out of IND which is about a 90 min drive. CVG is the closest but outrageous!! I have not booked anything yet because the cheapest I am finding is close to $300.00 and I was hoping Southwest would be cheaper. I am anxiously awaiting their rates. It looks like the cheapest at this time is $300.00 and because I am new at this... I don't know if that is a good rate. I want to get a rate like some of the others I have seen on here but don't know how long to wait.

Thank you for this post. What happened was this. Those prices were not coming up UNTIL DH cleared the cookies for the Airtran site. Then they worked!!! Because of snow possibilites, we chose to go with the direct flights, so our price total was $454.20 for the two!

We're getting to MCO at 10:11. By chance, we had gotten a pretty good rate for Avis rental car, before we got these plane tickets ($149.44 with a Free weekend day coupon) and he had put in "Car pick up at 10AM and drop off at 7PM" these actually work, so we don't have to bother looking for car rentals.

Thank you very much, if it weren't for the fact that you gave the time and date that you saw the price, we wouldn't have bothered trying the "deleting cookie" route. DH had "seen" the prices you mentioned yesterday, but we thought the Internet special, or whatever they call it were gone.

Bobbi :thumbsup2

I fly out of CMH all the time and have been happiest on Delta or SWA.

Your welcome! It really makes me feel good to know I helped you save a little money. :goodvibes If it weren't for my "ability" to find a good deal, we wouldn't be able to afford going to Disney almost every year. I'm a stay-at-home mom with children, so I've learned a few tricks!

Hope you have a safe, happy trip. :p Oh, you DID buy those tickets, didn't you? :joker:

Yes we did!! We weren't going to let it go! We're empty nesters, and we do make a few trips to Florida each year. We're staying offsite for this trip, because we'll be visiting a friend up in Daytona.

Good for you and your tips, I hope you have many many wonderful trips to WDW with your family. When we were raising our sons, WDW or DL was our vacation destination every 3 years, we go much more now.

Bobbi :)

Just for info Air Tran has flights from DAY to MCO for $79 plus tax one way in Dec
